I purchased this Calypso around 11 years ago, it was the first one I`d ever seen. (My Basic membership does`nt allow attachments, so sorry, no pics)The box is labeled "C52BMS", and "Experiment Ser Micarta 12/97".
The blade is a full-serrated, flat-ground AUS-8 with a raised (triangular) spine, fairly well polished. It`s got black linen Micarta scales and a tip-down black metal clip with the gold Spyder on it. Blade markings are :"Japan" on the clip side, and "Spyderco" with "AUS-8" underneath on the non-clip side.
The raised spine and the "Experiment" on the label always made me wonder if this particular knife was an early Calypso prototype, or ?

Essentially, yes. It started out as an experimental model (run it up the flagpole and see who salutes) and was successful enough to become a production model, rechristened the C52BM Calypso Jr. I believe the "raised spine" you are referring to is a swedge. The C54 Calypso featured the same full length swedge, as does the Dragonfly. Basically what you have is an early C52 Calypso Jr.

As yablanowitz said, the only difference between the CX03S Experimental and the C52BMS Calypso Jr. is the box. There were no changes to the knife itself between the first batch and the second. All the Calypso Jrs., stainless, Micarta, and FRN had the swedged spine on the blade, as did the C54 Calypso.
