Anywhere I Can Find a Custom Knife Maker?

i'm not judging your interests because each person has their own and there is also nothing wrong with having aspirations either but i think you're getting a little bit ahead of yourself. a custom knife for what you're looking for (as mentioned in previous posts) will be incredibly expensive. for your age, i think you should stick to collecting production knives from the major manufacturers (spyderco, benchmade , kershw, buck etc.) i noticed in your collection thread you had alot of no-name knives which is how alot people start collecting. try moving up to the production knives discussed here. they are more expensive than what you already have (from what i've seen) but aren't investments. this way, you'll get to try something from each maker or different types of knife and discover what you like. fantasy knives can be tempting due to looks and seeing them in your favorite show or game but once you see how useful "normal" knives are, you will appreciate them for more than just their looks.

I gotta agree with DrOpPoInT1110 - it's good to show an interest in knives, but I strongly suggest to start branching out and taking a look at other manufacturers such as Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, ESEE Knives, and others. They make very good production folders that are leagues better in quality and a lot more useful than anything 'inspired' by any film or TV show.

Just cruise around in the Manufacturer sub-forums for a bit, and you'll see there are a lot of good blades to choose from that may float your boat....

Wolf Trait-

I would like to give you a suggestion.

The reason you are getting flak for your questions is because this almost seems like a joke. I'll admit, I'm wondering if you are some sort of unorthodox troll trying to stir the pot. We take this stuff seriously and appreciate the knowledge that can be gained from this site.

Bladeforums is a great online community of men and women who share similar passions. These are not toys to us. If you want toys, this is not the place to look for them, and that's why some of us here almost feel border line insulted by these questions.

So anyways, my suggestion to you is to post a little less, read and learn a little more, and take as much knowledge and skills from this site as you can. I can't even begin to tell you how much I learned in my short time here...

What have you learned?

JGON

I've learned a lot as well. Although I doubt that I have learned as much as anyone else. I learned about Patina design. and much more. And I understand why I'm sorta off track on knife collecting. I am the only one in my whole life that got into it. My dad doesn't understand it and my friends are to young to. Although they are the same age they don't think the same way. I'll try to stay away from posting stuff like this but please note that I don't care much for fantasy. Although some posts I made were mostly fantasy knives I didn't get them because of it. I got them because of what they were. I got that fantasy kukri because it was a kukri and I want these Star Wars and Power Ranger knives because I love Star Wars and was a nerd over Power Rangers. Don't get me wrong I totally understand why fantasy isn't big here. Mostly because you guys and girls are Hardcore Knife collectors. I respect that. I'm just trying to get my collection started before I get into big companies like Benchmade or Cold Steel.

I think Wolf Trait is here to learn, he has posted his age, and we have to remember what caught our eye back then v. now. If WF was 30 and asking for the same things, then he deserves the full fury of BF members.

Give him a chance and help educate him on real v. fantasy knives.

I think i'm going to get a Simpsons knife custom made for me, cause that show used to be the bomb when I was a kid. Haha just kidding.

I am just going to echo other responses and say read around the forums and your opinion on what you see in a good knife will most likely change.

I understand your young, so here is an idea, Get a good quality production knife and get it custom engraved with something, Benchmade does custom laser work on knives and you can get it "customized" too you liking, maybe a quote from Starwars? A picture of Yoda lol. Its something to consider and you'll get a good usable knife.

Sweet. I'll check it out. And thanks everybody for your oppinions. Some were good, some were bad, and some were a bit tough but I don't mind. Sometimes it helps.

Wolf Trait, I understand where you're coming from. I remember being a minor and liking knives; not the case now. What I'd recommend is piecing together a knife like that yourself. The problem with getting a custom knife is... it's CUSTOM. It sounds like you want knives that would be for decoration, not actual use; which is totally fine- but really, you're wasting your money if you want someone to make custom pieces for looks.

Making one yourself would not only be cheaper and easier, but give you a project to enjoy while not spending gargantuan sums. Getting a handle for the vibro knife wouldn't be hard- it looks like a generic fixed blade handle. The problem is the blade. If you really are just looking for looks, it might be better to just find a piece of scrap metal and grind it down to the designs there and get a dremel and buff the 3-D designs in the blade. The problem is that there is no sheath that will really fit that blade- 3-d designs on the side, the sudden drop of the point on the blade, etc. The other alternative that would be MUCH easier would be to shape the basic blade and to then make those designs independently and weld/solder those to the blade. Notice: this will NOT make an effective knife. It will make an effective display piece.

Wishing you all the best in your journeys,

Zero

ummm, i understand what you are saying but usually you buy the production knives BEFORE you venture into custom knife territory.

good on ya mate I say go hard, Im a closet star wars fan, I like the old ones tho the new one were a bit dissapointing. Dont hesitate to contact a custom knife maker because of your age if you have the cash and your parents are willing to do some talking to the maker theres nothing stopping you. keep us posted on how it goes I would be very interested in seeing what you end up with. I just wish someone would hurry up and make a light saber, I would love one on a drop sheath on my chest webbing!!!!

Yeah. The only good new one was Episode 3. Episode one had no meaning. Only to show you what happend before. Episode 2 was the same. The only thing I like were the clones. Okay back to the subject. I see what you guys are saying. And although I wanted the custom knife I first wanted to find out how much. Finding out it's 1000$ I'm not so sure any more. I'll take your advise on trying to make one for my self.

Thank You,

Wolf Trait

To the OP, try collecting something like SAK's from Victoinox or Wenger. First off they are very useful, enexpensive and are produced in so many variations. There so many excellent "Star Wars & Power Ranger" collectibles out there already. With a nice collection of Swiss Army Knives, you could always get some money back if you ever decided to sell them. Your young, keep it simple to start, a production knife you buy today will probably worth a pretty penny when your 30. ;)

There's no reason for it to cost a thousand dollars. Such a knife does not have to be properly balanced, heat treated, mirror polished, or pass an ABS inspection. See if someone will make it from mild steel or austenitic stainless.

I just have to say after reading this thread by god there are some sad sac kill joys out there. If its got a blade and it can cut its got a place on this forum thus the name blade forum.
try and remember back to when you were young and the knife bug bit you and have a bit understanding for the young fella.

first of all wolf trait you need to suss out whether you want the knife to be useful or just an ornament, theres no reason that you cant have a star wars knife that is cabable of heavey work, next set a budget for yourself so you know how much money you have to play with. Ask around send emails to various custom makers and see what response you get and dont go with the first one to reply shop around and keep your options open. ordering the knife and really planing exactly what you want is half the fun.

I dont really get into fantasy knives all of mine are handmade hard work tools for a specific task. thats just me though if replicas etc float your boat dont let any sad sac kill joys on this forum put you off.

lastly if you dont have any luck draw up a picture of what you want photograph it and email it to me with the specs and I will see if I can make it or I will pass it on to some knife makers I know and get them to email you.
