AO removal on the tyrade

Does anyone know if the tyrade will still work fine without the AO? Will the blade not stay closed? I'm thinking about getting one to replace my blue bump...but I'm not a fan of AO personally.

I've had my Tyrade apart in order to put more stiffness in the lockbar, by giving it more bend. Absolutely nothing wrong with the lockup as it comes from the factory, I just like a stiffer lockbar than they come with. In fact I did the same to my ZT0200. But back to the Tyrade. I reassemblied it without the AO just to see how I would like it. I omitted the cover plate when putting it back together because I was concerned it might rattle if I decided to leave it this way. I had no problems with the blade opening inadavertly, but I had put extra bend in the lockbar and that applies more pressure against the blade tang, helping to make it harder to open. I also like a very tight pivot on my knives. So putting both of those factors together, my blade stay put until I decided to open it. Only problem I had was the blade not centering when closed, and I tried every trick I know of to correct it. Being as anal as I am, couldn't stand it, so I reinstalled the AO and it went back to a perfectly centered knife. Your try at this may not result with an uncentered blade, or this may be something you can live with. Btw, I used a heat gun to soften the adhesive under the cf scale on the nonlock side. Once the edge of the cf begin to lift I simply used a small screwdriver to carefully lift the scale on off, revealing the screws. Used super glue to put it back on and it has been no problem since. Good luck if you try this out AM!

Thanks a ton for the info.

Is it correct then that the Tyrade has no ball-detent?

I'm kind of a perfection freak...off centered blades drive me nuts...and removing the adhesive behind the CF scales seems a bit scary to me. That's too bad...I was hoping that like some AOs there'd be an easy and effective procedure to make it a manual. My mini mojo is now a manual and I like it a lot more.

Hmm....I'll still think about getting it though. It's still gorgeous and priced right.

I've had Sebenza's and other brand framelocks but I feel that the Sebenza is the standard by which to judge all framelocks, they just have it down! That said, and I've said this before, the Tyrade is the first framelock I would put up there in the Sebenza range. It does not have the bearing system that CRK does, but is smooth non the less, and better, at least in my estimation, is that the Tyrade has some heft to it that makes it feel oh so solid. Think it weighs around 6.6 ounces. Add a STR foldover clip and this knife dissappears in your pocket sight unseen and being flat you forget it's even there. With the solid/heavy build the AO just seems to go well with it. My lockbar covers about 1/2 of the blade tang, and the blade is .157" thick, so that means about .074" of lockbar is holding the blade open and locked! With the extra stiffness, my Tyrade IS NOT goinna' close until I say so!! The adhesive thing is not that big a deal as the frame is inlet and the cf panel sorta snaps in to place. I put 4 drops of super glue gel on the handle and just snapped it in place and held it a few seconds. let it rest overnight and it seems to be holding as well as before. Kershaw uses a black colored adhesive, I think it is a 3M product, but not sure.

These are a limited number edition and then it is over. If you like Kershaw, and you like framelocks, and you can swing one, I definately would as these are top of the line Kershaw, and because when they are gone, they are gone!!:D:D:D

Btw, here is a pic of mine from an edc post. Notice the STR clip......SWEET!

Hey AM--just do yourself a favor and hop off of the fence and get yourself one :D
After all, if it didn't work out (which I highly doubt) you could always resell it.

I see these on the exchange occasionally--maybe wanna hang out and snag a good deal ;)

Happy New Year!

I would definitely recomend looking for one on the excghange. For some reason the bottom dropped out of the market for these and you can pick them up in the exchange for a very reasonable sum.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll ask Mike when he thinks he'll have some in.

How do you guys think this compares to my cherished Blue Bump? I don't like the handles as much, but I like the blade WAY more (the Tyrade's)...but then, haven't seen one in real life.

I would *love* that. I love comparison shots. The more the better.

Also, if you have an offset, particularly the G10, throw that in there too if you don't mind. I'm tossing around the idea of picking up one of those too.

You list away amigo. If I have it, and you want it, it will be in the pic:thumbup:

Man you guys are helpful.

Well, if you got it, a RAM, Blue Bump, Tyrade and G10 Offset. As many pics as it pleases you to take.

It's unbelievable how strong the current G10 lineup is.

Sorry No Ram....so, I doubled 'em up so you could see as many angles as possible at once

Beautiful shots, they're all very helpful. Seeing the Blue Bump makes me miss mine even more. Probably the most beautiful production handles ever.

Shockingly, the Tyrade is actually significantly larger than the Blue Bump. I had anticipated they'd be almost identically large. And it's even beefier.

It's amazing how torn I can be about the high end Kershaw/Onions. I really never did get used to the Bump's weird blade and hugely prefer the Tyrade's, but I'm not really that in love with the handles on the Tyrade, I'm totally losing it for the Bump.

But that said, I was specifically in the market for something different in the blade itself this time....damascus...something like that. And the Tyrade fits that bill.

I've got a little bid on a G10 offset at a good price already. Wonder if I'll go through with it + a Tyrade.

One of them may just have to wait.

You know that Tyrade is calling out to you. Loosen the wallet and go for it! It is a very beefy piece, and at 6.6 ounces, it is a very solid feel in hand.

Ah it's great, I want it, I know I do, but the question is really which combination of knives to buy right now. I really do need a particular Spyderco for EDC purposes...so do I combine it with a G10 Offset or the Tyrade....augh...so hard

I hate to throw another possibility out there, but have you checked out the JYDII w/Ti handles and SG2 blade? It's awesome, especially if you want a hefty framelock.

I love the JYD2 with composite blade, but I definitely love the Tyrade even more. But it may be a good low cost alternative to the Tyrade if I have to make some tough choices on what combination to get. I want to see how Macworld goes down before I spend all of my money, at any rate.

Is the G10 Offset's blade coated still? It's hard to tell in the photos.
