If what I have been doing here over the last 2-3 years is perceived as dictating or telling forumites what they should do, I would like to apologize to everyone on this customs forum. I am certainly outspoken and perhaps even opinionated to a fault. However, rather than impose my opinions on others, my intention has been to present my views and ask questions in seeking other’s opinions. My goal for my post and threads has been to promote productive discussion and to encourage “outside of the box” thinking.

In addition, I would like to publicly apologize to Roger for my going too far in offending him on the two occasions with lawyer references. I did not intend to insult him, but did insensitively suggest he was using his professional experience to manipulate my points and statements. However when people are lead to believe that I have made statements which I have not, such as “collectors should not buy from new makers” then perhaps my disrespectful comments were somewhat understandable while not justified.

And last, I would like to apologize for my behavior on AG’s thread. The CKCA board has vowed that this type of behavior will not be tolerated on the CKCA forum, yet I allowed myself to be a part of it here.

Thought I’m sure some will consider this post self-serving, over dramatic or whatever, rather than an apology, it is just that and I did not want to further derail AG’s thread.

Self serving? Over dramatic? hardly!

Coming out to say what you said takes more thought and effort than many of us ever exert. You took the right step, I just hope others share my sentiments! :)

Kiven, you add a lot of good to this forum. You are one of the good guys!

I can say the same about Roger, hope you two can sit down for a chat at the Blade show

Thank you, Kevin. I guess I view this forum much like a basketball game where the opposing players really get in each others face even to the point of blows, but when the game is over they leave the court sometimes even with their arms around one another.

I know you and Roger and others are really the best of friends "off the court", and really have quite a few of the same goals and notions, just expressed differently.

I will continue to take what everyone offers and retain the good and ignore the bad. That's just kind of the way life is.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is a little distressed when two or more of MY friends go at each other, so I say nothing so as to NOT offend one over the other.

I read your apology, not as self serving, but rather as sincere, and I hope everyone else did as well. I'd like to think I know Roger well enough to be sure he took it in the same light it was intended.

Please continue contributing to the forum.

Paul

Roger and Kevin are NOT the BEST of friends off the court, Paul, but I do feel there is a degree of mutual respect there, and FOR SURE "have quite a few of the same goals and notions, just expressed differently."

They, as many of my fellow knife people, are of excellent character and action. It DOES take a very large set of stones to publicly declare contrition and responsibility, a quality that is sorely lacking in today's socio-political environment, and I for one, am very appreciative of it, as well as a great many of Kevin's excellent posts......Roger's as well.

Carry on gentlemen!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

It does get abit heated in here and I'm smart enough to stay out of it but stupid enough that I cant figure out whos right. I have decided you both are genuine and like knives enough to keep coming back.
Good apology Kevin. I appreciate you and Roger here. Some good discussions from this forum.

Kevin - apology accepted and please accept mine in return - as I mentioned in my response to STeven in the earlier thread, I know full well that I can be more pointed with my comments at times than I should be. That approach generally does not advance a point of discussion.

Roger

Well said by two great guys here.
Good examples we could all follow.
All the best to both of you.
Jim

How can you dictate or tell someone what to do by posting your thoughts on a knife forum?

Kevin, keep doing what it is you do. Many of the threads you have started have been among the most interesting ones that I have had the opportunity to take part in. A little controversy is not a bad thing. Opposing views make for educational and entertaining threads.

You are a good man that is trying to do his best to promote something that you love and you are putting more of yourself into this passion of yours than just about anyone else that I know. You're not always going to be right, but that shouldn't stop you from presenting your views. As long as you are willing to listen to the opinions of others, then others should be open to listening to and discussing yours.

I have a great deal of respect for you and for Roger and think that this forum would be much the poorer if either of you weren't a part of it.

Kevin and Roger,

I've learned as much from reading your posts as I have from reading the magazines, talking to makers, and attending shows. As a relatively new collector I appreciate that very much.

Sometimes it will get hot 'round these parts but we are all a part of a small community with more honorable people than I've experienced anywhere else.

My thanks to you both and please do continue expressing your thoughts!

Cheers!
Rob

You two are both to valuable to everyone interested in Custom Knives to be wasteing good energy on this type of stuff. makes things interesting :D but counterprouductive and I commend you wrong or right for taking a step toward the higher good..Bravo Gentlemen:thumbup:

Same here!

one of the things that I like about this place is the fact that there is so much going on and so much to take in. Lots to learn, and not just about knives.

It is the people that make this place worth hanging out in. The knives are cool, but it is the humans which make it what it is.
The populace is overwhelmingly rational and intelligent, and also genteel. This is an oasis of civility and is almost medieval in its chivalrous way.

Kevin, your unsolicited apology exemplifies the best of what this forum represents.

Good on you man!

Both of you are two of the guys whos names and avatars stood out when I joined the forum. I love reading your posts and I think you both have proven to be respectable knowledgeable guys. Keep posting. And Kevin your threads with all the questions keep this place alive and help people like me understand the way things work.

Being self-opinionated, biased or whatever is OK (freedom of speech) and makes for some interesting reading. Being man enough to admit you may have been over the top on occasion and aplogising for it - that takes balls!
