Appearence or Performance?

I buy knives that I like the looks of, that are also capable of performing well. If I only bought knives for performance, I would have quit buying completely, cause frankly, NOBODY needs more than maybe what, a good set of kitchen knives and say, a dozen or so others? I mean, a folder for EDC, a multitool/SAK, a hunting knife, a big camp knife, a light outdoor/"Bushcraft" knife like a Mora, a light machete, a heavy machete/chopper, a fixed blade for self defense, and a folder for self defense should cover pretty much all your needs for a long time, and frankly, even all of those aren't essential. Don't go hunting? No need for a hunting knife. Don't prefer to carry a knife for self-defense? Then you don't need a knife for that purpose. Etc etc.

With the makers, knowledge and materials available today you will be silly not to go for both. There is no excuse or reason why it cannot be functional and look good. Only constraint can / should be price... But then, work harder...

I've ordered this for edc function (defence against savage dogs & gutting rabbits)

It has the added bonus of looking so bland it can barely be considered a weapon, so as less to alarm the innocent populace.

I don't buy anything without a need to fill. I'm also for function over fashion. I tend to like simple knives anyway, non tactical, no bolsters, gaurds, recurves, tanto and so on. My Mora, my self made fixed blade and my ps4 see the most use these days.

I keep both in mind. My uses are pretty light these days - most knives will perform cutting envelopes and boxes - so I do focus on appearance a bit more.

I think I'm here ^^^

But I do have a few beefy folders for when I think I might need something sturdy.

To be honest, there are sooooo many great knives out there I don't see why I would have to choose one or the other. I can always find a good looking knife to fit any need I would have. It did take me some time to warm up to spyderco, but now I love them.
