Any of you who own either of these have a problem with the screens scratching? I've had a screen protector on mine since day one, i've owned it two months now and I decided to get rid of the stupid things. They smudge, scratch and bubble on the sides from my Switcheasy Rebeltouch case. So i threw them out. I've tried 3 different brands, all 15$ or so for 2 or 3. I'm keeping the case on it though to protect the back and protect it from if i accidentally drop it, which i haven't yet! My question is, i'll only be putting it in my jeans pocket, will it get scratched? What have you guys put your through? I don't know much about the screen... just that its scratch resistant. If it's going to get scratched from putting it in my pocket (lint and sand and stuff, maybe) ill get another protector, but i love how it feels without one. Input needed! Thanks guys.

My iPhone screen is pretty scratch still shows well, but when off and sometimes when on the screen is riddled with scratches. They almost look like brass ruboff but they act more like scratches. They always said scratch proof. Not the case.

Yeah, i hear mixed feelings on this. Some people swear by not having screen protection on and others warn about scratched. I just don't know.

It all depends on what you've got floating around in your pockets. If it's harder than glass, it will scratch it, and if it's softer it might not. Glass is a funny thing though and can be scratched by your jeans rivets, a jagged edge on a quarter, etc., even if they're softer than glass.

If you're just going to have lint, an iphone and the occasional grain of loose sand you're probably home free.

Do a little mental experiment; if your watch face is glass or plastic (not sapphire) is it badly scratched? If it is badly scratched, did you beat the hell out of it or just live a normal life? If you took care of your watch, took it off before sticking your hand in a car engine, etc. and it's still scratched, your iphone will scratch too because that's just your life and how you live it. If it isn't badly scratched then you have just showed yourself that maybe even without thinking about it you take care not to let stuff touch fragile stuff that you wear, that your environment is glass friendly and your iphone should be fine. Extra points if it's a pocket watch that isn't scratched btw.

Ahh good call good call. Nah, I wear a casio G-Shock, no scratches there. I'm more worried about the sand but i dont really carry a beach around in my pocket so idk.

The glass on the iPhone is VERY hard is relatively difficult to scratch. I don't have a screen protector on my phone, but it normally lives in a felt-lined belt case, and if it goes in a pocket, the pocket is rigorously checked for any objects that are harder than paper.

If you're going to carry your iphone in your pocket, I would get a screen protector, and a case. There are some very nice hard cases for the iphone. I have one that only covers the back of the phone, but it makes it much easier to grip, and thus there's less of a chance of dropping it.

I haven't had any problems with scratches on the screen of my iPod touch though I really don't carry mine around much at all. My wife's isn't scratched up either and she carries hers around in her purse where it comes in contact with all kinds of crap. I did just put screen protecters on both of them about a week ago just in case. So far they are good they were a pain to put on without getting any bubbles under them. They are ikross screen protecters I got on amazon for a couple of bucks for a three pack.

Even though the screen is reletively scratch resistant, there is no way I would carry it in my pocket with no protection.

I dunno. My girlfriends friend has had no screen protector on his 1st gen touch and hasn't scratched it and he's had it over a year. Anyone else?

Screens for the iPhone are manufactured by a a German company called Balba:

Balda now makes glass-surfaced screens that are far more sensitive, thinner, and harder to scratch or smudge than the plastic displays that now dominate. They offer sharper resolution, and unlike conventional touch screens—which get confused by more than one finger at a time—Balda's displays can sense several human digits simultaneously.

They're probably some sort of tempered mineral glass - a good all-around solution for scratch & shatter resistance for that type of application. They'll pick up scratches from harder substances. I would recommend using 400 grit sandpaper to get out those pesky scratches!

So what do you think their resistance is to normal pocket lint and the sand that ends up in there (a minute amount). It will never end up in a pocket with any other type of object besides headphones. But i always wrap them so theyre touching the back.

Pocket lint will definitely scratch the screen.

Sand, it depends on how large the granules are and the hardness of their carbides. For example, beach sand will scratch the iPhone screen while sand found in a park will not.

Headphones will make marks on the glass screen, even if you wrap them around the back. Best to put them in a completely separate pocket.

What pants and/or shorts will these iPhones be stored in? Pants made from a 50/50 cotton & polyester mix will leave scratches and dents on the screen... denim seems to be okay though.

I'm hoping you're kidding... lol

Don't know what they use for coatings but it must be pretty tough. DLC is commonly used for coating glass and plastics (ie, the glass bar code scanners at supermarkets). I don't use a screen protector.

Take a look at Invisible Shield.

I am not associated with them in any way, but I did put their entire body cover on my LG Voyager. The thing looks great and stands up to everything. When I show other people the cover, I pull out a car key and scratch it all over my phone screen. Nothing happens to the protector.

The cover also comes with this liquid that you cover the protector in, so you don't get the bubbles on the screen. It's hard to describe, but it works really well. I don't have any bubbles on my entire phone.

The protector is expensive, ~$30 for the whole body thing, but well worth every penny.

Simple solution: Get a belt case!

Just about anything put in a pants pocket will end up getting scratched and worn. It has to go by rivets, hang out with whatever debris is already in there, and you will invariably throw something else in on top of it, or leave something else in there before you drop it in.

I have this case:

. Mine is clear though. I am just debating because ive been using just the case with no screen protector. I like how it feels and whatnot. I'm just worried about ruining it because i'd like to have it down the line. I never drop it and i will never put it with anything else in my pocket. i just want to know if its strong enough for pocket stuffs.

I would look at Incase case's and a good screen protector. I like the matte finish, the only reason I took mine off was because it had a hair under it and it started bugging me, never got around to putting a new one on. Now my screen is not so nice, neither is the phone though. If/when I get a 3G iphone or newer I'm getting a good case and a good screen protector that is matte. Currently I use an incase plastic 2 piece case that works great.

I would, and do use a "Power Support AntiGlare Film" for the IPhone 3G. I bought it at the Apple Store. It doesn't bubble, peel off, lift up or show smudges. I love it. I carry it in my front pocket.
