Did anyone see this sow appocalypse man on the History channel this week end. If so what was your take on it. I found it to be some what good there was some info on it I didn't know about like how to make Bio Diesel. Please tell me your take on it.

I watched it, as far as I am concerned it was ok. but there is alot of other info they overlooked in their instructional. which leads me to belive I would be more than prepaired for such a bleak time. overall it was a decent view of things you can do in such a case, also it shows a good mix between what you need and don't need to worry about. the only thing I think they were in error on is where they made their base camp, while more of your needed supplies will be in the city area, I think you would be served better to have a base camp in the surrounding country. also the only defensive tools he had was a prybar and a flashlight, you would need atleast a knife and or gun for unexpected encounters. I give the show a 6 out of 10.

As a side note: the deal where he transversed the open bridge is a nogo, remember you have no emt's or doctors around. such careless actions could result in an injury that could lead to your death, it would be better to walk the bank of the waterway to find a more stable crossing.

the same stands true for the elevator shaft!

He was probably from california and used to big brother being there and not ever wanting to own a gun because he was too busy hugging the trees. :D

he is teaching survival skills in a post apocilyptic era, such as outbreaks have happened and most people are dead. it's ok for the amount of time they have to run the show, but he makes some careless moves that would prolly kill most people that have not been in military such as he has.

Some of the points were alright (steel wool/9v, bio-diesel fuel, where to navigate [granted I wouldn't take the sewer]).

I was reading other comments from other sites and some were criticizing the show as to learning to 'break into' buildings, 'steal' cars, 'steal' fuel, 'loot', and that scampering from place-to-place was too dramatic, etc...

C'mon sheeple, this is a time/place where 'anything goes'.

I think the reason why knives and guns weren't shown was to make it more appealing to a wider audience.

I'd just-as-easily say include a firearm/knife with flashlight when securing an area.

Did anyone else watch the other show on History? After Armageddon?

Mean I agree. What do you think about travaling by sewer?

as far as his mode of movement I found no problems, he is using the railways and substructures which is a smart move. I just can't help but think how many kids and teens will go to the e.r this weekend trying to cross over things using a rope and a crappy makeshift grappelinghook made out of a wonderbar. thats right a "wonderbar" wtf was he thinking?

I would not say anything goes but, most anything would go. remember alot of people will be looting simply because they can, the smart folks will only do it by need.

yes I did.

i've spent all day so far looking for it on line if any1 finds a link to it please post it

I am on the hunt for a torrent, it will prolly kill my computer so I may have to loot some parts from yall to fix it! lol

I knew I'd heard the name before - Rudy Reyes played himself in HBO's "Generation Kill" miniseries.

Technically speaking, you cannot travel by sewer unless you have the equipment that maintenance personnel use in sewers, respirators, etc., because sewers contain methane and other poisonous gases that can kill you so quickly you won't even realize it is happening.

Storm drains are often incorrectly referred to as "sewers." Storm drain systems have their own lethal hazards. Rain dozens of miles away can kill you on a sunny day in a storm drain system...it all depends on the system and geographical area, etc.

Homeless people, other refugees, diseased animals, reptiles and hostile insects, debris and being unfamiliar with the basic layouts like drop-offs into boxes, etc., can also lead to serious injuries or fatalities.

If you think storm drains might afford either good shelter or an avenue of escape, you should thoroughly examine some of the urban exploration / draining websites dedicated to exploring them, save pages and pictures, take notes and put them with sketches in your Moleskine...you do have one of them or a Rite-in-the-Rain tablet, don't you? ;)

Possible probes and excursions into drains in your area where you might have to utilize them would be a good idea but don't carry anything in there that you wouldn't show to a police officer because someone might drop a dime on you if they see you enter an area... It's a book all by itself actually.

Can someone burn me a DVD of both of these shows? The Armegeddon and Apocalypse shows/series?

You ever get the idea they read the forums we frequent? ;)

while I do agree about the "methane and other poisonous gases that can kill you" comment, remember this is all highpathtical. rudy reyes did actually refer to using these after a few rains have happened, I myself would only use them as a last resort. but it still gives ideas and options that most folks would tend to overlook, IMHO a trained marine has no place teaching survival tech to common folks who lack either skill or physical fitness to perform his tasks. but once again, while most folks could not or would not try what he is teaching it still gets folks thinking rather then acting rash at the moment cool headed planning should take over! honestly most common people would prolly lay down and die in this type of crisis, I plan on surviving#1 living#2 so it would be fair to say rudy reyes is teaching people the fastest way to suicide, to get injured without any way to get help.

thinking about him drinking water from the roof that he cooked over sterno, most apartments and homes have on average a 3 gallon fresh water supply that most people would not even think of. in the toilet tank, there were many things he did that could get you hurt or killed. there were many things that he did not touch on, but overall it will still get your mind working for fixes to problems that have not happened yet and in my book that is the key. be your own judge to weed thru all the bullshit to figureout what would work best for the situation.
