AR-type Rifle

Check-out Del-ton. Checked out a carbine of theirs, looked solid, and had a sticker of only $775 new! Del-ton.com.

My next "AR" type, black rifle is going to be something in one of the larger calibers. I currently have, and love my SIG 556 in .223/5.56, but I'm looking for something with a bit more punch... .308, 7.62 etc.
does it have to be an AR?
if not, check out J&G's price on CETME rifles.

No, doesn't have to be an AR... I'll look at the CETME's... thanks for the heads up.

The SOCOM's in .308 might also do the trick...

And then there is the "dream" setup of an FN SCAR Mk.17 with all three barrels (if anyone can lone me the $5 grand to by it would be appreciated.:D)

Thanks for all the info, folks. I think I'm gonna go with Rock River when the time comes.

Good choice. Their tolerances are very tight. I near have to beat my upper and lower apart because they fit so tightly. Even after thousands of rounds.

There is a good company in Gastonia named Ozark Guns. I got my Armalite AR 15 from them. Good outfit to deal with. They have Bushmaster, Colt and Armalite. Owner is a vet.

Good Luck.

Bumping this to the top as there is a new contender in town... The Sig 516.

I just read my latest issue of American Rifleman and they have a nice review of it. They LIKE it a lot (and I'm not surprised). Evidently, it uses a new, advance Gas Piston system proprietary to SIG and it has some "reported" advantages over other Gas systems available from other manufacturers.

Sounds like something else to consider when looking for a new rifle in the AR platform.

The article also indicates that SIG is working on something in 7.62 as well. I have a 556 now, and am anxious to see what they'll offer if 7.62.

Looking at getting an AR-type rifle, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of the damn things out there.

There's a name for this one. Paralysis by analysis.

I didn't know butkus and just went and bought just before the prices started climbing madly. I had to choose between Bushmaster and S&W, and I leaned toward the S&W. Those ARs have consistently gotten good reviews, aside from some early fit issues. I notice at least a couple of folks here mentioning the S&W's. Mine is still a work in progress. Just added a set of Troy battle sights, and I just ordered a DD Omega rail. Foregrip and light up next. Then, probably an EOTech.

I read the same article - and like the fact that their MSRP is $150 lower than I['m seeing for "real world" prices on the Ruger SR556. (its MSRP is close to $2K)

Yea, I liked that too... I was kind of surprised because Sig is usually pretty proud of their stuff!:D

Looking at getting an AR-type rifle, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of the damn things out there. I want a basic rifle to which I can add bells and whistles as funding permits. What's a good, but not outrageously expensive, basic one to start with?

I bought a DPMS LR-308B a couple months ago. I love it. Fun and very accurate. Plus, its in .308.

I've had good luck with my Stag, I've only shot about 200 rounds of wolf, but I haven't had a jam yet. I don't have any reason to think that its better than Rock River or Bushmaster, but I think its just as good!

Whatever brand you get, buy the completed lower and upper seperately. You'll save a couple hundred bucks (on average).
