So I'm curious about the Arctic White coating, specifically if it's black underneath the white like the Bronze is?

I have a Bronze NMSFNO and upon thumping on it found that it was black underneath the bronze. I like the way it looks with the contrasting colors, especially since the black matches the G10 handles on it.
Now I'm curious about the white, which like the bronze seems to be another color that most Hogs pass on. If it's black underneath I think it'll make a pretty sweet user- kinda stormtrooper-ish.

If any of you know the the answer to this I'd really appreciate the help.

Thank you.

I inquired about a year ago on arctic white and was told to LEAVE THAT ONE ALONE-cannot speak from personal experience, but was advised by a VERY knowledgeable person-Good Luck!!!

Breavis, would you think if it's that much of a PIA to strip that it'd hold up better to use ?
I like stripped blades but half worn from chopping doesn't bother me either👍
I know you've striped a few, would a scotch brite wheel on a slow speed be more effective ?

TOMMYGUN,
Would you please go into a little more detail on why you were told to leave that one alone?
Was that in regard to stripping it or were you told something else about it.

If you don't wanna post it here please feel free to PM me if it's something you Hogs know but us piglets may not.

Thanks again for the help.

I'm curious about the Arctic white coating also. I think it makes the handles pop more especially with bright g10

I will not mention who told me by name, because that get's somebody else into this conversation who may not want to be involved, it was not in regards to stripping, but the finish itself-Breavis 5694 is a very knowledgeable source, and knows a lot more about stripping the blades than I do (just look at the job he did on the Moabolo). Since it seems your question is more in regards to stripping Arctic White, I can offer you no more Info-sorry and good luck

Very good Sir, I appreciate the warning and the help.

Never met a coating that could go one round in a ring with this stuff. It just bubbles it up and wipes it out. Just a gentle scrape with a scrap of kydex cleared the coat off this one.

^^^^^^^^^ nope, it has zero effect on micarta or g10.... but wear latex gloves (learned that AFTER the above pic). It will burn your hands after a minute or two of exposure. Nothing major, soap and water washes it off fine. Fumes can be harsh. Wouldn't wanna huff it for a living.

I've probably used it a dozen or more times on coated knives with no issues whatsoever except I seem to crave beer more nowadays.... hmmm.

I was looking into arctic white a while back, from what I remember reading here it was said to be the least durable costing, and tended to chip/flake off. Not personal experience so take w a grain of salt.

I stripped an arctic white snakeskin sfno back in 2010, no black under, just white and had to let the kleen-strip soak a while to get it all off. That one and my urban camo hg55 were two of the toughest to strip.

Able, The finish is tough, in my opinion is the hardest to strip of any busse coating since the shbm smooth coat. With that being said I think it would make an excellent chopper and for sure will hold up like no knife ever. Buy it beat it and then show us

I've always imagined beating it through poplar and it having cool greenish black stripes on it from the wood

Thank you for the input.
So far the only detractor is that plue said it chips, that wouldn't be ideal if I was using it as an all around camp knife- but- let's be serious, how many of us ever take only one knife😆😆😆😆

Seems to me that if the deal is right on an Arctic costed blade that I want I'll try it out and see what happens. I'd like it to get that worn in stormtrooper look but if it chips it could always be stripped.

Thank you all again for your help.

I hear ya on the urban camo... That Moabolo took about three runs of Jasco, . Actually it was a run of Jasco, then citristrip then Jasco again. Tough stuff when it's in layers

That knife is HOT!!

The pic of that user is exactly what I wanted to see. There doesn't appear to be any black below the white coating.

Still looks nice all beat up but definitely not the stormtrooper look I was hoping for.

For a little more money I'll keep an eye out for a Sage coated blade.

Thanks again to everyone that helped.

I've stripped quite a few pieces of Infi and SR-101, never had any issues. Tanker Grey is some tough stuff, but Artic White was a beast. 3 rounds of 3 different strippers sitting for max+ recommend time. Then many quick "washes" with more stripper. The white was thin, sticky and aggravating. I would do it again, don't get me wrong! Another odd thing after I stripped, white kept coming from under the handle! It just creeped out! The white never bubbled up, just got softer and very sticky and stringy. Have fun! ;)

That sounds like quite a chore but considering how much less the white ones seem to sell for in comparison to the other coatings I wouldn't mind the work; after all, it is the Infi under it that I'm after.

I asked because I was interested in the one for sale on the X-change but have since talked myself out of a NMFSH. I think the NMSFNO will do for now unless there's such a thing as an anorexic NMFSH, then I'm all over it.
