I was wondering if any of you guys have experience with changing 110
blades? I have a really mint knife but the blade is getting worn from
years of sharpening. If I can line up another blade generally do they fit
into the slot without alot of fuss or do they usually have to be "fitted."

thanks,
Sean

It may depend on how old your frame is. There was a thread here some time back about the newer blades not fitting some older frames correctly.

You may want to provide pics of the tang stamp and the frame. Others here will have better knowledge.

It's an old one with the brass rocker rivet. The thing is mint so is the blade other
than it's become short and smaller from sharpening. I'd love to put one of those
Damascus blades in it from Snake River knives I see on the 'bay.

There are ones here that do make blade changes. Just not Buck, as a rule of thumb.
Might inquire about this at Snake River

And a fwiw, mint, usually means new and unused. Can't be mint if it has been sharpened.

Blades for the 110 can be replaced. I'll let someone else answer the specifics of your question.

For clarification; "Mint" refers to something that is new as it leaves the factory assembly line or bench. "Mint" means "never-been-used" and in immaculate condition. If the blade is worn from use and sharpening, the knife is not mint. If it has been used at all it is not mint, as "mint" refers to more than just the condition, but that it has not been used and it has not been circulated (i.e. sent to distributors, sat on a store shelf, handled by potential customers). The most that could be said is that it is "like new" if it has been used at all. :)

Thank you gents for the clarification on mint condition for me. I will keep that
in mind. :)
I might inquire at Snake River, thanks.

The blades from Snake River are made to fit the newer 110's so I am sure some modifications would be needed to properly fit an old frame.

Leroy Remer worked at the Buck custom shop. If you send him the parts, he can probably put them together. It's worth a call.

I ended up getting a reply back from the chap at Snake River. He suggested I punch
out the blade and send it down to him and he will match one up and send them back
to me. I think I might go that route.
Another question... what works well for punching out the pin without damage to the
pin and edge of the hole? A dowel perhaps or something a little more specialized?

I wore out a old 2 dot 440 c blade,It was much shorter and basically worn to the point it was sticking out of the liners in the closed position.I searched on ebay for a 110 that was cheap, rough condition,440c ,but with a decent blade.$14 and sent that toBuck, they changed iot out polished it up,and looks super, all for about $20

.... ..punch
out the blade

I think I might go that route.

some how i jest would not advise that..
it is not a case of easily jest punching out the pin...
i dont tinker my self ..but when one that does recommends not
i would really consider what they said..
IMHO i would buy the blade, send it to Leroy to do as
slight minor in-tolerances will result in a knife that does not
operate correctly and could be un-safe..
You cant go wrong sending it to leroy ...
he does all my 110 repair work ..

I wonder if you could find an original blade like yours only in better condition.......also, there might be somebody around who would like to have your old blade for a frame they have.

I'm open to options for sure and I appreciate all input. It's really a strange situation
because both the blade and the knife are in excellent condition. It's quite amazing
actually. I guess someone did a great restoration job on it at some point.
I didn't realize really that it might be more involved than just pushing out one blade
for another. My love for the one-ten runs deep but my skill and knowledge are quite
another matter. :)

If anyone wants to check out the knife in question I have some pictures posted on
my flickr.

I like that Cabela's Idaho cut out 110. Now that is cool:D
I love damascus bladed BUCK's. I have a 186 titanium take apart with a Buck Custom shop damascus when I get a chance I will take a few pictures.
I have it to match my Damascus BuckMaster.

Your blade looks more like it's short from having a broken tip rather than thin from a lot of sharpening.

Looks like it might have been tipped and then reshaped.

Maybe that's just the camera angle, Idunno. How long does the blade measure? Those old ones were longer than the current ones.

You might be very well right on the tip being snapped at some point. It measures
a whopping... 3 3/16ths from the front of the brass.
Thanks, I just got that Cabela's unit a few days ago.

Oh yeah......it's missing a piece then.

Well, so it goes. It's still a really nice knife and one option would be to try to find an old blade that's correct for the frame, but it would take some looking.
