Are all Laurie blanks too soft for a ferro rod on the spine?

A while ago I bought an Ahti knife which I loved but in use as a "bushcraft" knife it was a pretty big issue when I found that it was unable to strike a ferrocerium rod. While I know that there are some people that don't need a knife to do this and argue it's practicality, I find it a usable function and thought it was a bit bothersome that I was unable to use my knife as a fire starter. So here I came to ask, are all the Laurie blanks (what most low end puukko makers use) are tempered in such a fashion that the spine is unusable for this task. I would also be welcome to any other, similarly priced, semi-traditional puukkos that do have hardened spines but are not Laurie blanks.

Thank you

Ahti puukkos use standard Lauri blades, which are tempered to 59 HRC all the way to the spine. I'd say that is rather the spine to not be sharp enough, given the unfinished surface Lauri blades have.

Have numerous puukko with Lauri blades; all will strike a ferro-rod. I suspect what Frederick89 said is correct. The spine on yours isn't sharp enough. Easy to fix.

No, it's very sharp and will strike a small spark but them immediately rolls and deforms. Other reviews say similarly.
