Are all leaf springs made of the same steel?

Since this has popped back up again, I will give the new line I have been using lately when asked questions like "Are all car/truck springs the same...."

"Yes they are exactly the same.....just as all women are the same.
Some have different attributes from others, and just looking at them won't tell you the difference!"

Even if you do know what kind of steel it is, the analysis won't tell you if the piece is full of micro stress cracks from fatigue. Think about why that steel may have ended up in the junk yard in the first place.

I just got some leaf spring steel off an old abandoned 1940's Plymouth car. I'm going to see how it does.

Six year old thread....and leaf springs still are a total crap shoot. I would not maker a knife from one.
