Are CR Sebenzas THAT good and can one get a better price?

Yes, I must say that they are worth every penny. You may want to keep an eye out on the classifieds section of this forums and other forums. Sometimes, one pops up for sale at less than the regular price, even for a new one. The large one costs $325 from a dealer or from CRK.

I have been blessed in being allowed to own some of the "finer things" in life. I am not a rich man but am particular about certain items. Without doubt, the CR Sebenza is the best of the best. Other "leaders" in other fields could take a lesson. They are worth the price.

CRK asks there dealers not to discount and they don't. As the previous posts says, you can sometimes pick up a NIB for somewhat less than the list price.

I think their worth it. I just ordered a large "Classic" Sebenza at the Blade Show. I was quoted a "three to six month" wait. Not bad considering my last one was a year wait.

How cool was it that CRK was next door to Emerson Knives? I bounced back and forth several times.

Well, I just got mine yestaerday, the large standart sebenza & IMHO or at least to me, no, they are not that good. I didn't like the lock, to me the blade was kindda shorty. Matter of taste I guess

No wuestion, it is a high quality product, & it'll cut good, but overall I didn't like it. I'm gonna stick with my BM 710 axis M2. I think I'll be returning my Sebenza.

I have to partially agree with Gator97. The only Sebenza I really think looks nice is the 'Classic 2000' (and some inlays or designs might be a nice addiiton). I am annoyed that dual thumbstuds aren't standard, as well. I for one would definitely like to see some more varied designs offered by CRK, since they are among the highest-quality production knives available. That said, I will most likely order a Sebbie once I have a little more free cash.

I love my large Sebenza! In fact,I just received mine back from CRK.I had them install dual thumbstuds,re-blast handles, polish the blade.I think its one of the highest quality, smoothest folding knife, strongest lock thats available. The price may seem high, but after handling the Sebenza and considering the quality materials used to make it,you'll begin to realize that its actually a bargain. My two cents,Ralph

There is alot of details that go into a Sebenza. All those things cost more.Details like a rounded back and perfectly matched handles and grind lines. Also I have no blade play and it is very smooth. These are just some of the things that I have not found on other folders that cost in the $100 range. To me it is worth the money.Extreme quality will simply cost more. The Sebenza is a very fine package.Thank you.

Bennett, welcome to the forums and you certainly know how to start something!

If you did a search you will find a bunch of similar threads, both extolling the virtues of the Sebenza and those on the opposite side that find fault with it, to each his own, if we all liked the same knife, one maker would be down right busy! and it would be a dull world out there. (no pun intended

)

Myself, I am always surprised at the ease of cutting ability with my Sebenzas, when compared with other knives they do cut better, but that is due to the blade edge geometry and others would say that it is too thin and prone to break and chip under hard use, but I haven't found that to be the case with mine, but I don't try chopping down a tree with it or hammer through barb wire fence either, leave that to a tool for the job, but when it comes to cutting, look no further!

And the company really stands behind their product and they want to keep you happy, which is a plus. Most of the other manufacturers also will do this as well, but perhaps not to the same extent?

Good luck on finding one, as noted above keep a sharp eye out and you can pick up a like new in box for less than full price.

At least nobody ignores the Sebenza or seems to lack any opinion. That's a good thing. Realizing it's impossible, I wonder if those who don't like it would like it if it sold for, say, $100? I'm not suggesting anything. I'm just curious to know how price enters into the opions. Take care.

I like sebenzas, but not at $300+.
If sebenzas were being sold for ~$100 I would pick one up right away.

Sebenzas are worth the money if you love knives. Like anything knives hit the point of diminishing returns at a certain point on the scale of quality. I cannot say my small Sebenza is 3x better than my Axis locks, Avalanche, or Spyderco Starmate and Military, but I can clearly look at the finish of the blade and see that incredible attention was paid to finishing it. The same is true for the scales and the fit of the lock. I have compared my Sebenza to some expensive customs and it compares favorably. The bottom line is check out a Sebenza at a knife store or gun/knife show if you can to see if it is for you. If you are inclined to spend the money you will probably be satisfied.

Hey man,its like everything else in life."You get what ya pay for"I can buy a 8,000 dollar car or a $25,000 car. Both will get me from point a to b,but usually the more expensive one is alot more reliable, smoother, performs better, comfortable, better looking, uses better quality materials, better warranty, service etc. Many people are happy with a knife that costs 50.00 and it serves them well.I see the difference in quality and crafstmanship comparing the products that cost 300.00 as opposed to 100.00.The question is,what you can afford to shell out and is it worth it to you?Later,Ralph

The finish on my BM 750 may not be as good as the benza, but I havn`t broken it yet.I`m still waiting to see these 2 knifes tested.I want to see how much more perfomance you get for that extra $225.
Fred,
Its not that I dont like it,ive just found for $100 it seems the 750 is as good as the benza.
If anyone disagrees, then I guess we`ll all have to wait till someone faces them off in a grueling test.

Sorry folks I`ve failed to tell the truth in my above statement.I THINK THE BENZA IS A POS GREY TURD!

"ahem".... Let me just say that before you flame my good friend Stihl, understand he's been drinking today. It would apear he's had a bit too much

We haven't addressed part 2 of the question... well, I have bought NIB sebenzas for as low as 280. But they were desperation sales. I have also bought allegedly NIB sebenzas as low as 260, and the blades needed a look under 5x to see that they had been slightly used... generally had very minor scuff marks from brief carry.

But 300 will get you one for sure.

They are excellent blades and a great carry. And one of the least costly knives I own.

I guess everybody is entitled to their own opinion.... but jeeeeezus, you can't be serious.
As much as some people complain about the price, the high quality of the Sebenza speaks for itself.

I would enjoy a comparison test myself, but I think I know which knife would win.

Just my $.02
Joe

For one that is intended to be a user, the best deals are from individual sales.

You should be able to save $50 on a just carried or lightly used one.

Joe, I didn't think STIHL deserved any kind of response.

I hope he edits his post again.

That is totally uncalled for.

When I read msgs, when I do any search, I always stomp on it.

I wonder if those who don't like it would like it if it sold for, say, $100?
hmm, donno, I'd keep mine, just for the collection, but how to say, it was something like Starwars Ep.1 to me, so much hype & ...
Yes, it's a very hiqh quality product but I don't like it. I wanted to give it as a gift to my friends, I've asked 5 different people, but they didn't like it either.
I do have much worse knives but at least I wasn't expecting much...

P.S. It's not only money anyways
