Are Customs Worth It??????

Hmmmmmm, Well I guess so.

Yep I am sure!

Back when Benchmade was still making "Custom Bali-Songs" I ordered a Custom Five inch Weehawk from them. Sent in my money and everything and waited and waited and waited.

Two years later I was still waiting. Never did get the knife as they discontinued the Custom Bali-Song buttefly knife line.

Got my money back, but was majorly disappointed. Found out that I was not alone in my feelings, but there wasn't alot I could do about it.

That Five Inch Weeahwk with skeletonized Stainless Steel Handles was my "dream knife".

To get my "Dream Balisong Knife" I decided to make my own.

After many false starts and side tracks, I found that I could make a pretty good butterfly knife.

I also found that there was a market for what I could produce.

Benchmade makes some of the finest production quality knives in the world today. I should know I have, use, and carry several daily.

But the key word above is "Production"

The Model 42 Bali-Song is the best production butterfly knife in the world today.

But is it everyones "Dream Knife"?

Well ?????? It could be improved upon, but that would cost Benchmade more money for R&D and then production.

Am I in competition with Benchmade?

No.

Am I in competition with other Balisong knife makers?

No, not really as everyone has a different idea of their "Dream Balisong Knife"

Am I willing to try to make anybody's
"Dream Balisong Knife"? Yes. With a few exceptions.

As The old saying goes,

You Get What You pay For.

We need more custom balisong knife makers to fulfill everybody's wish for their "Dream Knife"

For some reason, most people don't like to leave their walls bare, especially if they have the usual flat white walls.

You can go out and for a few bucks get some posters or something. Heck, make the rounds to your local car dealers and they'll give you a bunch of nice posters for free.

You could always stop off at one of those guys by the side of the road and get a paint-on-velvet picture of a cute puppy (oh and look -- if you cross your eyes you can see Jesus and Elvis in the background) framed and everything for about $20.

So, why did the Portland Art Museum recently spend over five million dollars for a picture that covers maybe four square feet of their vast wall space? That's a lot of money to cover not much space!

Well, as you might imagine, this is no mass-produced poster. No, this is a custom. It is, in fact, an original Monet.

It's a known fact that the fellow who bought this picture originally paid Claude the equivalent of about $200 today. At the time, it was a lot of money, a lot more money than you needed to spend to cover four square feet of your wall. So, why did this man choose to spend the extra money? Because he wanted something special and because he could appreciate the superior quality of Monet's work.

You can buy a nice Jaguar for about $20. Why pay $125 for a BM 42? Why pay $400+ for a custom? Because you want something special and because you can appreciate the superior quality.

i all depends on your league I guess.. and how important (or how fanatical) you are with balis I guess. it is why they have fancy restaurants with really good food and BMW's out there. if you consider a custom bali our dream then it s somehtign that drives you to greater heights., ofcourse there is nothign wrong with settling for 2 BM42's. it is u tot he individual.
