Are expensive knives worth it?

Are expensive knives objectively better than cheaper ones or are worth it?

... Find a maker who isn't flavor of the week on Instagram. Adam Vigil and Phillip Patton come to mind. Have the knife that you want built to your needs.

Like Matt from CMFTW Knives  :) or any of the startup guys. Just talk to some of the members here, they’ll help. There’s no shortage of good stock removal knives out there or makers willing to build a fixed blade to your specs for about $100. Back in the day you used to be able to pick up a Greco or a Newt Livesay G45 for $50 and under. Back in the day there was no shortage of up and coming knife makers willing to build good quality knives for under $100, just look/ask around.

materials, design, and pride of ownership. How much a knife is worth to you really comes down to how much you value the aforementioned aspects.

This sums it up perfectly from an "expensive" knife perspective, especially the pride of ownership part. And I say perspective because what is expensive to one person is not to another. My most expensive knife was $240 but I don't consider that expensive. That is my cap though for a knife I plan to use and beat on. I may buy a more expensive knife ($500 and up) but I don't think I'll use it for more than carrying around and opening boxes with it. It would still make it worth it though because of the pride of ownership. I still have the same pride of ownership on all my other knives but the $240 knife has seen the same abuse as my $70 knives.

But to your pick of knife to make the jump to: it's a beautiful knife. I have one, a 0452ti. I call it the sausage. But IMO there is a better knife in that size range for less money right now from ZT. The 0920 has been discontinued and still available for under $200. IMO, it's a better cutter and has better steel than non sprint run 0452's. It's a little front heavy due to it's heavy blade and milled out handles but I don't notice it while I use it. I have M to L hands and both fit nicely but if you have bigger hands you will like the 0920 better. The 0920 does take up a bit more pocket space. And Nick Shabbaz says it looks murdery! How can you go wrong with that!

So to answer your original question if expensive knifes are worth it: absolutely, to the individual who's buying them. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any.

For your started goals, more expensive knives ARE worth it.

Just keep in mind that better steel is usually harder to sharpen, too.
