I'm thinking I saw somewhere that Fallkniven is making their venerable F1 in VG10 and another steel. Was I mistaken or is there another steel option:confused:

It's a laminate like the rest of their knives , VG-10 core ,420 outside. Some knives like the TK-2 have an even better core .Check the website.

The F1 has been laminated 420j2,VG10,420j2 since 2003
Here you can see the different versions. http://hem.passagen.se/nodh
Some older models might still be around and many web shops have not bothered to change the description of the knife. Usually when you email and ask they describe the newest model anyway. The might have a picture of the old F1 with kydex but they ship a new with zytel etc.

Most of their knives are avaliable in 3G steel i think, in addition to the VG10 steel.

Well, a few of their knives, like the H1, are available in 3G. But the F1 is not, and neither are any of the big knives. Personally, I like the laminated VG-10 just fine. It's not as brittle as certain unmentioned supersteels, and is much easier to sharpen.

The 110 available are very hard to come by. I doubt very much that anyone wants to sell theirs. There are two new Fallkniven knives to be released in April, with 3G steel. Pictures are to be released next week.

Maybe if you look at the Fallkniven forum you might find one.

thanks nodh, nice to get the insider scoop from someone over there. I hosted the Swedish sailing team a few years ago when they came to the International finals in Newport RI. They brought over a few knives for me GRIN!

Nodh what is your opinion of the 3G steel vs the VG10?

Ravaillac thanks i was about to ask why one would want 3G over VG10. Any other properties that would make it worth the premium being charged of $30-50US more for the same knife in VG10?

Other than the blade size difference what do you like about the H1, S1 or Forest over the F1?
