Are "flippers" legal to carry in California?

Any fellow Kalifornia residents know if this is legal? I've read some laws, but it usually mentions that there's no blade length restrictions and that blade should open with a thumb stud or other device. Not sure if a flipper fits. Help anyone?

Very much so. One of my EDCs:

I don't know if that's double edged or just has a convincing false edge.

Looks sharpened to me, though!

THOSE... I don't think so.

It's single edge.

doesn't matter. there is no restriction on the number of edges a knife may have. per california law, the term "dagger" is not a reference to a double edged knife, nor is there any mention of a double edged knife anywhere in the penal code.

flippers and ao's are currently legal.

CA seems to have reasonably liberal knife laws, other than the fact that carrying concealed is a no no. This flies in the face of their draconian guns laws, or maybe the hoplophobes just haven't caught up yet. Here it's the opposite; almost anything's go as far as guns are concerned, but other devices are still prohibited.

Never been any legal issues with flippers or assisted openers, auto's however, are limited to 2" maximum length.

Anything legal for carry in CA, may be carried concealed.

whoah really? are all ddr maxx style knives single edge?

Yes, all of the Madd Maxx styles are single edge. When closed, the spine sticks out of the handle. These couldn't be double edge if you wanted them to be without changing the design:

Just a heads up...some cops here will consider your trunk as being concealed on your person....I don't know how that is intelligent perception but thats how they see it. I had a trunk-full of knives taken off to be "destroyed" a couple years ago because they were not acceptable knives to have on you.

Didn't matter that I had just got out of the Marine Corps and was transferring my property to a new apartment.

They had me in the back of the squad car while they went through the box o' knives and ooo'ed and ahhh'ed about how they are so dangerous and definitely illegal. Said I could take 8 felony charges or just say I didn't know how they get there so they could take them away for me and do me a favor by destroying them.

Since then I just go around with one 3inch blade manual opener....not worth the hassle by a dumb ass cop who is having a bad day.

P.S. I love law enforcement and I'm going to be a full-time deputy in the near future. There are a lot of dumb ass cops though....where I grew up in Ohio there was a 4inch blade law....but some thought it was 3 inch, some any locking folding knife was illegal, and some thought any blade was ok....

The best way to deal with that, is to call both the CHP and the local police before moving anything. I do that, and I get badge numbers, names (if the officer/s will give theirs), date, time, and what we specifically talked about.

If I am pulled over, I'm covered. I call the CHP once a year before our annual road trip, and make sure nothing's changed. (I haul my rifles & knives up to our inlaws once a year for a week.)

thx - cpr

I buy double edged, pointy knives at will in this state. I dunno [exactly] what the out of staters are talking about.

only for carry, not for simple ownership.

Anything legal for carry in CA, may be carried concealed.

not true. a dirk/dagger may be carried openly, not concealed.

and a person may carry a firearm (unloaded) openly, but not concealed.

I was simply clarifying your post about what types of folding knives can be carried legally in CA, since that's what the OP wants to know.
