Are "flippers" legal to carry in California?

Awesome MORIMOTOM. You're knowledge as an LEO really is an asset to these forums:thumbup:

I'm going for a stroll now with my unloaded pistol and sword:p :D

They had me in the back of the squad car while they went through the box o' knives and ooo'ed and ahhh'ed about how they are so dangerous and definitely illegal. Said I could take 8 felony charges or just say I didn't know how they get there so they could take them away for me and do me a favor by destroying them.
I call BS on that. Sounds more like a couple of theives and extortionists in police uniforms to me. Its guys like that who give all the good cops bad names. :grumpy:

Any fellow Kalifornia residents know if this is legal? I've read some laws, but it usually mentions that there's no blade length restrictions and that blade should open with a thumb stud or other device. Not sure if a flipper fits. Help anyone?

You do need to be careful around schools (K-12). My understanding is that California laws require a non-locking knife with blade 2.5 inches or less at schools. I got a Spyderco Urban to carry when I pick up my daughter as school.

Im sure CA is similar to the Northeast, and it's up to the Storm Trooper if he wants to give you a felony for a SAK. That being said. if you have a lawyer (paid) if the knife has a "Bias toward closure", ie: ball dented, and other Mechs, it should be good. But carry what you are willing to take the risk for. I Carry OTF Microtechs. I Drive normal. Dress casual to Nice. Not a banger. Pretty Quiet. 5+ years no problem. One time I had to show an officer because he did the whole "I have to check you for weapons" BS while going 27 in a 25. All he said was "cool knife". But it's up to you and your needs. if you think it could be illegal and don't want the trouble, there's plenty of GREAT Lockbacks and everything else.
