Are Flipping knives a fad?

I bought my first flipper in 2000. When it was mostly kershaw who was making them people called them a fad. When other companies finally produced their own flippers, they seem to have gotten more respect. I personally no longer care for the flipper knife. Many are too small and the fingers are crowded with the flipper protrusion. Not a fad after 17 or more years now.

The flipper tab with no thumbstuds at all is definitely a fad, and it can't go away soon enough! Too many new releases the past couple years without thumbstuds.

This I agree with. One of the only flippers I kept is the Kershaw Lahar because of the thumbstuds.

Over the past number of years, I think I've seen a few threads like this with the same title, so I would guess that flippers are not a fad.

I used to carry mostly autos. Now my edc assortment is mostly framelock/linerlock flippers. They are the easiest knives for me to one hand open and close. Fantastic addition to a knife!!!!

In general, no. Though there does seem to be a very specific flavor of ti framelock flipper that's, probably the word 'bubble' is more appropriate than 'fad' that sources more educated than I have predicted will pop soon.

Nice. Ill have to check them out. I really want a kwaiken. May just need to be my next purchase.

The Steelcraft Kwaiken is slim and light (under 5 ounces) even with a 4" blade. They come in black or gray. The only design element I don't like is the lanyard hole sticking out from the bottom.
