Are GEC knives catching on as users among non knife knuts?

I think that we need to careful about describing folks who do not carry traditional or GEC's as not being caring nor knowledgable. I see an awful lot of folks carrying Spyderco's and Benchmade's, etc. while I am hiking, camping, fly fishing, etc. Those are not inexpensive and they are well-made knives. I know what appeals to me about traditionals and GEC's specifically goes beyond functionality. The real question is whether GEC can physically produce knives that appeal to the small niche that read this sub-forum and to the general knife toting folks at the same time. I don't think they can and I doubt they even thought about it. The better discussions are the ones that we have all the time on this board: GEC vs. Case, GEC vs. Canal Street, GEC vs. Queen, etc.

God forbid we ever see that. The day they show up in plastic bubble packaging at Wally World is the day I take all that I own to the lake and dump them in.

If you ever do decide to dump your GECs in the lake, kindly let me know first, so I can be there to scoop them out as soon as you leave. ;)

I ran into the GEC guys (principals) at Smokey Mt Knife Works (SMKW). I hadn't heard of them at that point. I looked at some of their blades and my reaction was pretty much what the common consumer would have... expensive (like $20 too high), but well made. I didn't buy anything. I later went back to SMKW and purchased one.

Sigh. I don't think I was very clear. :-( Will re-visit and clarify when I'm back from my trip.

Let's close this until Mark's return and then he can clarify the direction he intended for this discussion...(either by reopening or beginning anew.)
