Are knife magazines on the way out?

So here's my take.
You won't regret having spent some money on current knife catalogs instead.
They don't cost as much a magazine sub. would.
Besides, it's a fact that there will be some value in them in the future, eventually.
So come on 'n tell, ya'll just interested in techs 'n specs and not entirely on "destructive test" or where to buy more chinese knives?!
If the current rage of knives is towards Chinese manufacture, then I'll be equally damned to buy expensive magazines which feature nothing but sky rocketing prices of Chinese made knives. Or would those magazines be printed in China too? There's been a fair amount of books printed there.

Didn't Blade disappear for a while, maybe some time around when they changed from American Blade to just Blade?

Even with all the ads, I still hope they magazines stay around. I just enjoy having them in my hands and leafing through them to look at the photos.

Does anyone remember the old Gutmann Cutlery annuals? Those were my favorites when I was in high school and college. Even though they were essentially catalogs, they still had a lot of stories and articles that were fun to read. Most of them were goofy, but they were entertaining.

I like Blade Mag., articles and ads, cover to cover. Like the Forum, and the web, and the catalogs, etc etc ... it is all good. :)

WOOK

I find that most magazines are thin on content, heavy on advertising and very expensive.

Rather than spending money on a magazine, I would rather visit knife forums online, and pay a subscription to support a site like Blade Forums. I cannot intereact with other knife knuts with a magazine, but I can with the internet. One visit here online produces far more knife information than is possible from a knife magazine.

GearNinja.com will be published in FlashPaper so it will look like the printed page on screen, but be fully searcheable like HTML/PDF. If you like a page and want to print it for some reason- you can and it will look like a tearsheet from a magazine. It will still be paid for by advertising but sadly, the legions of printers and pre-press folks will be looking for new jobs someday soon and here's the best part- No trees will die, no ink & solvent will be spilled and no trucks or truck fuels will be used in distribution.
Look for it soon at GearNinja.com
Sorry for the shamless plug !

Too bad I won't be able to read it.
My high speed web connection happens to be my Motorola Q Windows Mobile phone. If the format you chose is Flash based (Macromedia) then I think you will be shutting out a large number of possible readers (there are no Flash plug ins for WinMob as of yet).

Do you know if your tech people will offer a plug in.

PS,

This was posted from my cellphone, and yes you CAN take it to the dad haven (bathroom).
