Are neck knives any good?

You know you frequent BF when you aren't wearing pants but still make sure to have a knife on you. :D

Yeah, I feel almost guilty because I immediately thought, "Man! That IS a really good way to have a knife when I'm wandering around the house in boxers!"

neckers are great for bushcrafty stuff IMHO.

I'm even stranger :D I even wear mine to bed, just in case I need to cut something in the middle of the night ( it's not what you think, blister pack medicine is hard to open and I often wake up in the middle of the night with heartburn )

I love a small fixed blade, but my neckers are either dropped in my right rear jeans pocket or worn on my belt. I recently picked up Southern Grind's Rat, and despite its size/weight, it will continue to be "pocket" fixed blade. Great little knife btw

I literally thought this was such a good idea that it gave me an excuse to pick up a Minimalist Bowie. Admittedly, it helps that I'm hooked to an IV pump 24/7 right now, which tends to encourage lounging around pantsless. ;)

I normally like videos from gideons tactical but this one was a complete FAIL. It turns out that when Aaron goes deeply into his opinion you can see just how ignorant he is. This video was like a hot chick opening her mouth to reveal her voice is like a canary. Or for you ladies (or those who prefer men), that scene from Grown Ups with the Canadian lifeguard. Just give us the specks, show us the sheath, and roll in some video.

He didn't even address the main difference someone would carry a small fixed blade over a folder: lateral strength! The down side of a folder is that it folds at the pivot. This makes the design weak by nature to prying. Such a simple explanation that was for the most part over looked or ignored. Fail.

do it, you won't regret it.

He basically said that for him, a good folder is a more convenient carry than a small fixed blade, and that if he choose to carry a fixed blade, it better be at least 4".
I honestly don't see nothing "ignorant" or "fail" about that.

It is a fail if you say something "sucks" but you do not address why most people think it doesn't suck. He focused on blade length. That is not the reason to carry a fixed blade. The reason to carry a small fixed blade is because it does not fold. I don't pry with folders because you can damage one quite easily doing so. I do some lite to medium prying with a small fixed blade. This is one very good reason someone would carry a small fixed blade over or to compliment a folder. He didn't address this at all. Either he isn't aware of such a fact or he deliberately left it out of the video. That is ignorant and/or a fail in my book. He built up strawman argument for rhetorical purposes which rarely works. I like most of his videos but this one lacked basic knowledge. To each their own.

I own several fixed blade knives and most of them have a 5" or less blades. None of them suck. I own several folders and none of them suck. When my hands are very cold or when I'm wearing gloves, a fixed blade is easier to deploy than a folder. I usually EDC a folder but sometimes I carry a fixed blade. As far as neck knives, I sometimes carry a fixed blade that way. When canoeing I carry a knife in a neck sheath, it's easier to access than a pocket knife.

That does it. Next time I take the garbage bin to the street, I'm wearin' nothing but a neck knife and a smile. [emoji56]

Dunno what your weather is like there in Utah, but if it's anything like Ohio be prepared for shrinkage.

Of the paracord necklace, of course. ;)
