Are NMSFNOs Still Being Made?

I am a little confused. Back on Feb 21 I ordered a NMSFNO while they were still at the Busse Combat order site. Then, in a few days they were taken down and the NMSFNOs appeared in the company store. So a forum member who resides overseas who ordered on the same day I did from the same place got his. Of course, I could just cancel my order and order one from the company store, but when I inquired about shipping, Amy told me that production was working on it and it would ship in a week or so and that's fine with me. I don't need it today.

So apparently some NMSFNOs are still being made? I thought that with the announcement of the new HG55, that production would be working on those. Can some of you more experienced Busse owners tell me how this works? Do they work on more than one model at a time?Just curious.

No but you can get the leftovers at the company store.

I ordered mine before they moved to the company store, while they were still at Busse Combat.

I would think that "production" would still be wrapping up the orders that were in-house when the site changed. The elves have many projects and they adjust the schedule to fit the needs.

I would say it is not quite a faucet that can just be turned on or off

Yours is being made according to your choice in handle, blade color, limited etc...

If you go to the company store now you will only be able to get what they have listed.

Well I know somebody as helpful as Amy would not tell me that production was working on it if that was not true. It would just mess them up if I cancelled and got one from Skunk. I just couldn't figure out how the whole production thing worked. Maybe some are putting handles on blades already ordered while the HG55s are being ground or something.

I suppose they may still be making them to fill previous orders like yours ?

as Doug said, just because the nmsfno is of the site they still have to finish up the last of the orders taken before they removed it.

Busse makes the knives as they are ordered, so if you ordered the last day they were offered they still have to make it.

There's tons of Busse elves at work over in Busseland, so it's all getting done in good time!

I believe Stinky (Skunk for those that don't make the connection ;) ) places his order for Company Store inventory at the beginning of a blade release. Busse takes orders thru their site until Jerry says "This is it boys..." and they are taken down from the site and no longer available for order.

Production makes knive in batches (as in like color combos, LEs, etc) and in conjunction with quantities ordered. (they may end up doing 2 batches of a certain color combo... and this is why some folks get theirs before others).

So... you just ordered before ordering closed... Amy says they're on it...
it's just a matter of time before you get you Chunk-O-INFI. :D

In the case where 2 porker order the same color combo at the same time and one gets theirs before the other (which I believe you mentioned happening)... could just be that someone cancelled an order of that blade, so it goes to the next in line. Make sense? :)

Thanks, Lil' Foo. I never knew that Skunk did those orders. I just thought that the leftovers got sent to him. I ordered the sage with black micarta, and those were in stock at the company store last time I looked. But I'm taking Amy at her word. And yes, my overseas friend and I indeed did order the same color on the same day.

Thanks for the intel guys. I've got to say even after reading through a lot of posts I was also still very confused about how the whole ordering thing goes.

I'm actually still a little confused, but less so now. :D...maybe "dense" is a better word.

So to see if I understand this, when Busse Combat is making a style they basically only work on that one style. So they don't actually take custom orders in the sense if you wanted some screwball designed knife. But, if you want the model they ARE currently making but in a different blade color or handle color combo then they will do that for you? Is that about right? If that is the case, is there somewhere that gives a list of the possible color options you can have it done in, or say with a satin finish instead of coated or something? Sorry if this is a highjack I can put it in another thread.

PS Horn Dog, not to rub it in but I just got my NMSFNO in that same color combo tonight. You're going to love it. This is one knife I wouldn't mind waiting for, it's worth every penny.

Thanks, BoulderTRoll! Oh yeah, I feel much better now.

You're welcome HD.

I numbered your questions for ease of answer...

1. Typically, but not necessarily... I imagine they are focused on that particular blade, but they are also making show & ganza customs, individual customs, protos for new blade designs, etc.

2. Typically yes, they will take orders for oddball designs... unless they've said "no custom orders until after xx date." I would think odd designs will take much longer to complete than blade styles they have in stock. And I beleieve they have a lot of blade styles & thicknesses in stock, beyond what the current offering is. You'll see lots of discontinued blade styles come up as variants in shows and ganzas. But I would never just assume they will make any custom, best to call the shop to discuss w/ Garth.

3. Yes, but I believe its considered a custom... and may end up at the end of the run, or even much later than that.

4. No list or chart I know of... satin is always an option when it comes to custom order... coatings you can get a good idea of what they have on hand by whats listed in the current offering. I would imagine any color not in stock, would take longer to get in and make for you... if they say yes to doing it.

Hope this help... and anybody please correct me if you know something different.

Thanks Lil'Foo, that's more than I could have asked for! (Though I'm not sure my wallet or my wife are going to thank you in the long run:D).

The orders that were placed before we took it down are still being worked on...however yours shipped out on Tuesday :)

Thank you,
Amy
