Are Paramilitary (1) blades interchangeable with the Paramilitary 2???

I was haunting the exchange area looking for something that I didn't know I needed but now I may need it afterall....savvy? :p

Well, I happened to run across a D2 paramilitary and looking at the green handle a thought struck me...is the paramilitary (one) blade interchangeable with the paramilitary 2?

I have to know, this is crucial to me wanting to buy this knife from a certain individual because it's a knife that I didn't know I needed but now I must have it if the blade is possibly interchangeable with the second variant

Thanks ahead of time for any responses to this, J.

Edit to add: I think I may have answered my own question...the para 2 is a little longer than the first one. Ooops :o

I believe in the video with Eric Glessler describing the changes, he says the P2 has a longer blade, so they aren't the same. I have neither model to be sure of that, though.

What you said is what I was thinking and edited into the OP...great minds think alike they say :)

I would say simply no, they are not interchangeable. There are different tolerances between each knife and lock interface. They might look the same but there are differences that just cannot be seen.

The original has a thicker blade.

Not entirely true: my CPMD2 measures 0.1447", and my Para2 mics at 0.1448".

I don't think they're interchangeable. The lock interface is one main issue, and there's the longer blade, of course. The stop pin is probably not at the exact same place either.

Not to mention the pivot. The pivot hole in the Para 2 should be larger, to accommodate the bushing in the pivot design.

I stand corrected.
Spyderco has the original listed at 4mm & the Para 2 at 3.5mm....

Just read another thread where a poster said they were the same thickness.

I posted in another thread before I got here - I got similar results with a CPM-D2 P1 and an S90V P2.

Looking at the two side by side, I don't think there's so much as a screw in these two knives that would interchange.

Highly unlikely that they'd interchange and even if they did it would be ill advised. I don't think you'd be able to do it though. It appears the new Para 2 has bigger hardware all around including the stop so that would mean the blade was set up to accommodate that larger diameter stop pin and that the lock interchange would be adjusted for that on the blade tang. This alone would be a show stopper for how the lock works, how the blade mates up to both the lock and the stop and in how it sits when closed because if the blade was sitting on a bigger diameter pin and was then installed in a folder set up with a pin smaller than what it was made to work with it may ding the edge on the lanyard sleeve, or the spacer from the blade sinking too deep when closed. In contrast to this you'd have other issues with the situation where a blade made to sit on that smaller diameter stop would now be on a larger diameter pin than it was set up for and in this case the tip of the blade would likely stick up some when closed. I could go on as there would be more issues when opened too. I believe the tang differences in both blades would also relate to how the detent works to keep the point down during carry which would also be different. In short, it ain't gonna happen! ;)

Spyderco says 3.5mm versus 4mm of the Para 1 but some other forum brother stated they looked to same to him. I'd go with what Spyderco lists though. .5mm is not always easy to see with the naked eye . . .

Looks like Spyderco might have listed the Para1 wrong, or the D2 sprint run had a different thickness.

Comparing my para1 and my para2 the blades are exactly the
Same thickness.

referring to the CPM-D2 P1 and an S90V P2
Just used a cheap pair of calipers to compare them and they both come up at 3.6mm...:

and one last one for good measure
...my CPMD2 measures 0.1447", and my Para2 mics at 0.1448".

So thickness might not be an issue, but as STR pointed out, there are lots of other issues at play that don't work.

I also think the pivot bushing/larger pivot screw would have something to do with it not being swappable.
