Are Part Time Makers Forgotten?

You should definitely get a knifemaker membership here. You should also change you user name to your actual name. That way folks around here will know who you are when they see one of your posts. Show off your knives. If they look well made, and are reasonably priced, there are people on this forum that will buy them.

Get yourself a well done website. It will introduce you to more people than anything else you can do.

Jewel encrusted art knives and knives that are not meant to skin out a deer are not crap. They are just knives made for people with different tastes. You shouldn't look down your nose at the work of others just because what they are doing isn't what you like in a knife.

Who are you ?

I will have to agree with WWG

"Everything you do or fail to do is your fault" I remember that from some phase of Ranger school

Hope you don't take offense but all I see is someone whining it does not matter if you are joined at the hip to JF "You build and sell YOUR knives" , so quit whining and find the solution , there are many in this thread.

I have learned so much about the business from reading many different threads in this very forum, some time I do not like the advice that is given or the opinion but a guy just has to find his way through the fog. I have been part time for 2 years going full time on friday the 14th and have tried to build it all folders, hunters, tactical, upscale, forged etc etc, one it develops my skills and 2 it opens my customer base, I have had some great success selling every single knife I make at my price.

Good luck hope you have great success

Eric, I have one of your knives and like it quite a bit. I was actually looking for more of your work recently, as this is the knife that I like to take camping.
As a part time maker, you can make what you want to (and appreciate what you want in a knife). But while I understand your frustration, it doesn't help your cause to insult the people that enjoy collecting knives that are more highly embellished or have more expensive materials.
I think Roger hit the nail on the head for me. You only need one or two using knives, but as a collector, you can justify as many as you want. That's me...and probably a lot of people who like knives.

well...........like everyone said......the ball is in your court.

I have been on both sides of this equation.......for many years.

You can keep whining or you can change things.......its up to you!:p

I second Keith Montgomerys post, I collect 3 makers avidly, But some of my most prized knives are from custom makers on this forum, they are affordably priced custom peices that just speak of the talents of their makers, if you had to pay for PR and all that goes with it, with no reputation you would fail as a business! Which is what you seem to want, this forum speaks of a makers talents and craftsmanship! Give it a try!
