Are SOG Fixed Blades Really Practical?

Back to the original question.. Are SOG fixed blades practical? I guess that depends on what you do for a living. In regards to the specific knives you mention i.e. the SOG Tech Bowie and the SOG Agency, if you frequently go behind enemy lines and are discretely remove sentries then yes, they are great knives. But lets not kid ourselves, they are collector pieces that are fun to fondle. 99.99% of the buyers for these knives will never leave the couch. In this respect some of the arguments against the agency like steel type are silly.. AUS8 will dispatch a sentry just as well as A2.

The nice thing about SOG is that they make a large range of knives from historical wall hangers with limited use (Agency) to tough beaters that you can use and abuse (Northwest Ranger or the Force). In addition, they make them available at differing price points for most budgets. For true "operator" types they even make knives like the SEAL Team Elite that are tough, functional, tested, and durable.

Some of the comments in this thread make me think some of you guys either can't see the forest for the trees or have no sense of humor.

Most big knives seldom get used. I believe that to be a fact. They are bought because they're cool and the buyer simply wanted one. That's not a bad thing really. I have no problem with SOG knives overall. But I have grown past that knife buying point in my life. The one that I really like that I suspect few like is the folder, Access Card 2.0. Very useful little knife. I believe that was in fact the last SOG knife I have purchased. Considered getting a non-partial serrated NW Ranger, but then I asked myself "what for". So, I didn't buy one.

Yeah, I have Tigersharks still in the box, serrated and the old non-serrated SK5 version. They certainly provide eye candy, but not very useful for me in my normal life's comings and goings.

I agree with retzius. My Tech Bowie sits under my bed for protection and my Agency is just a museum piece for me. Both blades have a beautiful TiNi finish and initial sharpness is very high.

I also own the TiNi and polished Tsunami blades and I must say they are quite sharp. I will never use them for what they are intended for but sometimes a guy just has to have a few fun pieces to show friends every now then.
