Hey Didimaqui, welcome. If you decide to get a Gunting for its martial arts aspects I recommend Terry Prichard (fourcycle, see above posting). He is a square-shooter and made me a deal on mine that included the introductory tape. I would not have bought it, but I now consider it mandatory if you buy the knife. It is not for what it teaches you to do, but for what it teaches you NOT to do. Almost every injury that I have seen mentioned in the forum couyld have been prevented had the persons but paid attention to that tape. P.S. I love mune, not as a defense knife, but as a utility EDC.

As to Spyderco's quality, I own more of them than a I care to number and I love all but one or two. That, sir, is a record.

lemme just say this. My endura, 50 bucks at a local store, is the simplest, most reliable, and sharpest from the box folder I own. It doesn't have a superlock (allthough spyderco does make the awesome compresion lock) It doesn't have carbon fiber scales (though spyderco does offer this on a couple knives) and it doesn't have some fancy wave opener, but it is the best engineered, most inteligently designed folder I own. In terms of ease of use, ergonomics, and durability. Good engineering, combined with the most agressive solicitation of customer feedback (and most care for the customer) of any production knife company I've seen have made this possible. Although spyderco does offer knives with advanced features, and executes them well, there is no better folder in the world for the 50 price range than spyderco's folding clipits. I can't comment on spyderco's high end pieces cause I don't own any, but if everyone here knows what there talking about, than the short answer to your question is:

Yes.

One way to qualify Spyderco is how they helped to change the knife market for the better. By offering a large selection of good tools at working man's prices, other knife companies had to reach higher to compete.

Not easy to call any one company "the best", but few would argue that Spyderco is Not in the race for that honor.

I think spyderco makes the best production small blade folders (< 2"). But it's up for grabs in the big blade folders category (> 3"). What happened to the pegasus? It was one of spyderco's best little folders.

I think Spyderco makes the most "diverse" group of folders out there, something for everyone. They are, in my opinion, in the top of their class when you compare knives by any manufacturers out there dollar for dollar. Their hole opener is too me, the best one hand opening idea out there. I hear their customer service is great, but I have yet to need it. All the Spyderco knives I have been fine out of the box and have all held up great (even the ones I have misused).
Spyderco knives are well designed, well made with quality materials and incorporate some really neat new ideas (nested liners, new locks and sometimes radical patterns, etc.). If you have any doubt find a retailer with a selection of some top brands and check them all out. ...Ed.

Hey! Stop talking about what a great value Spydercos are. Sal might be listening and decide to raise the prices!

I only have a set of Spyderco kitchen knives (3pc.) 2 Viele folders (one old and one new with VG-10) and Wayne Goddard Lightweight.... and like them all!! Great knives.

The best in ingenuity, and for the most quality in a production knife for the money, on the lower end. My openion. RKBA!

No shock what the answer to that in this forum is. =) Hell yes they are the best. I have been collecting seriously both factory and custom knives for about 6 years now. I use knives in a factory on a daily basis. Spyderco is at the top of my list. In fact I sell knives locally. Mostly to my co-workers. It's a large plant. When people come to me for a knife I always suggest they buy a Spyderco of some sort. I can actually get them any major brand. Spyderco is the only one that I have 100% faith in.
