Are Striders awkward in the hand?

Nope. The handle looks like it'd be really uncomfortable, but it feels really nice actually. I also think that a CC SnG is too thin, but a CC or DGG SMF is just right.

TBH, I have both a Sebenza and an SnG right now and I like the ergonomics of the SnG far more. I am actually considering sending the Sebenza in to get re-blasted and then selling it to fund a Lego SnG. I don't like the thumb stud on the Sebenza and the pocket clip is a hot spot for me. The SnG just fits better. YMMV.

When I had SnGs I was surprised at how well they fit in my hand. They are very comfortable for me to hold and use. I liked the lego version better than the CC and I didn't care for the DGG one I held, but that was more for the feel of the finish on the knife. The actual ergos in hand were as good as any folder I've ever held.

I didn't care for strider at all. Decided to try an smf and am selling some knives now to buy more! So comfortable and rock solid. I'm almost a strider fanboy. Fell in love with them

The SnG fits me perfectly. If I'm doing a lot of cutting I like the lego, if I'm carrying it more than using CC.

It's a love hate thing and very individual. For me the SNG fits my hand more comfortably, but I don't like the loss of cutting edge. The SMF has the blade size I'd like but the handle does not fit me well at all. I'd also say to me the CC models are much more comfortable than the square edge non-cc versions, and much less obtrusive in the pocket. I will say that either one feels better in the hand than you'd think by how the handle shape looks. In the end I rarely need to choke way up on a knife so I didn't like the loss of blade length, to me spyderco with say the manix 2 does a lot better job of still doing a two hand position but with minimal loss of blade length. My SMF is only about 1/4" longer than my manix 2 if you compare edge to edge but it has to be at least an inch longer overall.

Of all my folders I'd say my ZT 560 is one of the most comfortable in the hand long term, and I'd say for my hand spyderco does the best job overall of ergonomics across various models. They just don't up or down size knives they consider the ergonomics for example both the Manix 2 and Manix XL are equally comfortable in my average size hand while they each have much different handle sizes, most companies would just scale everything up/down equally and be happy with that, spyderco obviously put some effort into upsizing the knife but keeping the ergonomics.

I think people would be really surprised if they put all their knives out and started handling them with their eyes closed paying only attention to how well the handle feels in their hand. For me a lot of very expensive knives have worse ergonomics than many production knives. For example I love my CRK knives for their fit/finish, but neither my Zan or my 25 is that comfortable in the hand long term compared to say a PM2, Manix 2, or 560.

I've only tried a few Striders in hand personally, and I thought they were absolutely awful.

But lots of folks love 'em.

IMO only. But still fact, i have very large hands size 21 ring finger, plus hard as a rock form heavy equipment work. only a large frame suits me. As for striders, and many will choke on this, the Buck/strider 882 bos ats 34 excells beyond any and all striders. with removable g-10 scales. next the rare Buck B881-SPX-0 mini strider is beyond compare. again ats 34 bos , g-10. with the common knowledge behind the strider fabricated stories, one must remove history or background from the brain when judging these knives. a hugh number of strider fans or even knife fans have never seen or held these 2 knives. thank goodness, you can still fing them nib on a regular basis if you look
