Are the exclusive limited editions worth the extra money?

I'm tempted to get the ladybug 3 Toxic green exclusive USN but its $75 dollars and essentially the same knife as any other ladybug 3 with H1 steel. Which I can get for like $40 shipped.

How badly do you need the toxic green and DLC combo? You're also a lot less likely to wind up pulling out the same knife as the guy beside you if that's also a consideration. For me, some are and some aren't. Depends on the knife and what makes it different than the standard version.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. Is the fact that it is an exclusive and is toxic green worth $35 to you?

Some Sprint runs are more than worth the extra money and others are not. Just depends on what you want in that knife, if the color is that important than the price might be worth it for you.

It's hard to justify paying almost double the price of a original ladybug 3. I mean normally with that much price difference you'd get a whole new completely better model. While as that is just a variation of color. Though I still see it becoming rare and the resellers targeting it for price gouging. So if you did want it paying MSRP isn't that bad of a deal considering I feel the item is going to get scalped by resellers soon.

I don't see the extra value in a sprint with a different colored set of scales. Seeing you're in Florida though, the H1 steel is a must have IMO.

Yeah I want H1 steel just for that as I like the beach and what not. But you can still get H1 on the original ladybug 3 with the yellow scales. The only real difference is the color variation of the scales and the blade. So its basically almost double the price and the only difference is color and the goat design on the blade. The style of blade might be a small difference.

The DLC blade coating also adds some cost, so it's not just the handle colour. Look at the coated production Salt knives and their uncoated counterparts, and the coated ones are more expensive.

When in doubt, buy it now. Secondary market prices will almost always be higher once they're no longer available, and if that's the case, buying it now and not wanting it later won't cost you anything. Not buying it now and wanting it later will.

Good thing I listened to you guys. Just picked up my package this morning at the UPS store. I go today to check the spyderco store and its all sold out. It stayed in stock a few days after I ordered but my order was probably one of the last batches. I got both the spyder edge and the plain edge. And there is only one on ebay right now the spyder edge.

I'm glad I got these safe queens when I did lol. I wanted the USN catcherman and USN endura but those are so rare you won't even find them on ebay or any auction site. When one does pop up it cost a pretty penny.

My wallet really is hurting but my speculation on these paid off. I'm not selling or trading either they are for my collection.

The pain of spending money will last only a short while, but the joy of carrying these knives will last until you lose them.

What I meant to say is that yeah, I totally support buying a cool knife to enjoy. Even if it is not objectively "worth" the cost of admission. What you are buying is good vibes, and the fun that comes with carrying and using these knives. Well done.

Didn't you punch in the discount code?

No one would share it with me even though I begged everyone on the interwebz. I had to pay full MSRP which sucked.

USN members are all elitist IMO. I'd rather pay full price now anyway and can continue to call them pricks rather then get the discount.

Plus in the end its spyderco getting my money not USN so I support that too.

But I was aware of the 40% off code. And nope never got to take advantage.

So you hate "them" so much you got two knives emblazoned with their logo?

Also, I can assure you, the process of joining is roughly like the movie "The Skulls." Very hush hush. Pretty sure several former presidents were USN members.

That, or you just need a non-standard email address, can't remember which....

That's why I got the them and to safe queen them. So as new members join the usual suspects network and want these I can hold them hostage from them. That and they look really cool.

Only you can decide. For many, the appeal of the same model with different blade steel, handles and colors is too much to resist. I've succumbed to this myself. But you're essentially correct, it's still the same basic knife and will perform in much the same manner. It's more of a collector thing.

Easy does it with any cross forums stuff folks. That is not allowed anywhere on the site, period.
