I am thinking of buying a Polkowski/Kasper Companion but I have heard some bad things about the sheaths. Are there just a few bad sheaths? What is the truth about the sheaths?

imho a GREAT knife, w/2 sorry sheaths - have ya seen them?? they just look 'cheesy' and cheap to me, not non functional really, but my on/scene tac sheath is 110% better and cost like $25 or so - definitly need a good sheath for a good knife imho.....

They're thoroughly mediocre, though it took a long time for me to decide that I wasn't happy with them. They're loud and somewhat clumsy. I, too, ordered one from Eric at On Scene Tactical, and I'm anxiously awaiting it.

I'll echo everyone else's sentiments. The sheaths you get with the knife are ok at best IMO. Eric's sheaths are great. Lightweight, much more versatile, and don't need a long break in period to be able to get the knife in and out without giving yourself a serious wedgie! I was in on getting the first ones anolg with bugs3x, and I'll swear by Eric's work, it's great.

Thanks again..

From the context, I gather the discussion is about the CRK&T sheaths and not what Al makes.

CRK&T should spend the few extra bucks and get decent sheaths made, until then, go with the advice given. I have Mike Sastre's version and I am quite pleased. I am thinking about seeing what Eric's are like in the not too distant future.

Normark, thank you for replying. Do you have any online pics of your Polkowski/Kasper Companion sheaths that you can share with us?

Hey Nonbox...

Unfortunately the pictures I took didn't turn out...

I can tell you though, that they are High quality and will allow you to carry almost any way you feel like...

Drop me a note..

and look at the price of this knife!
at this price the knife is a steal,
and the sheaths are free!
what do you expect from a free sheath?
anyway it holds the knife, give it free when you pull,
and give you more options for carry than some other sheaths!
OK they are not first quality, but for free ...
what do you expect from a free sheath?

If you dont like the sheath forget it,
the knife alone is worth every cent!

Just IMHO

Hey Non..

I agree..
Nothing wrong with taking a Great knife and turning into an Excellent knife with a custom/semi custom sheath..

The same as taking your favorite handgun and knocking the old sights off of it and dropping in Tritium sights...Or even getting a better holster for it..

Hell handguns don't even come with holsters...

Many knifemakers such as Busse Combat now have options on what type or even Whos sheath can come with their knives...Thats the way to do it..Give the customers options...

Look at what Pete is doing with the custom Bucks...Good Stuff..:)

CRK&T has a price point they are going for with this knife and sheath combo. I understand and I apreciate it. I probably have no clue on this (I have been told I am clueless many times:p) but I don't believe bumping up the quality of the sheath(s) would cause that big of a price increase. IMO, istead of offer two bad sheaths, offer one good one that will do the same job both sheaths would. Or, work out a deal with a sheath maker an see if some kind oof discount can be worked out. Something like, by a CRK&T Companion and receive a "coupon/voucher" for a x-brand sheath at x cost.

Anyway you go with this knife, it is a winner. One of the best executed designs I have seen from CRK&T.

Now, if they would only make Al's Scorpion or maybe his Urban Kukri!:D

Dirk, you HAVE to dorect me to more on the Urban Kukri! I have seen pics of the Skorpion and I am in love. An Urban Kukri sounds, well, AWESOME!

Al's custom sheaths are excellent. If you are talking about the production sheaths, I can't opine because I haven't seen it. But I can say that there is nothing more aggravating than having a great knife and a lousy or mediocre sheath.
If you want a superb tactical sheath, NORMARK IS DA MAN!
I have a few of his sheaths and you won't be disappointed. It makes a very big difference IMHO.

Just think, if this knife/sheath combo was available 10 or 15 years ago at the same price point, it would be/have been the greatest thing since sliced bread. As it stands, it's a super knife design & the price still can't be beat. Agreed the sheath is chunky & loud, but excellent replacements are available. Spend the extra $30.00- you still have a super knife.

I found some pics of the Urban Kukri. WOW, is that a neat blade! I think I'm a Scorpion fan though. Well, from pics anyways. I've never seen a Polkowski in person.
