Are the Sebenza 21s being discontinued?

It would be cool to incorporate the wrench into the lanyard bead.
That way you always have it with you.
For those that keep the lanyard on, you're right, win-win! I think member haze was working on a cool Umnumzaan tool...maybe he'd do a hex bead.

Was hoping the 21 would still be production along with the 25. Also hope they still decide to produce a small version whether its a 21 version or 25.
All this change is making me nervous  But alas, change is good and I look forward to the future!! ;)

It looks like really the only aspect of the Umnumzaan ultimately that Chris didn't like was the thumbstud/blade stop which I thought was a great simplification and very innovative. Apparently, an actual blade stop must be pretty crucial.

Sad news....but I guess it was inevitable just as the regular was disco'd the 21 would follow suit.

I think I will miss the pivot bushing the most.

The only thing I didn't like about the umnumzaan was having to use locktite on the pivot and having to find that sweet spot.

I loved having only one tension, perfect.

i agree!

This is sad indeed. All I would have hoped for would have been a 21-A with the larger blade, pivot and shiny screws. :(

What I like is that the new bladed/pivot knife has a new designation "25".
That way we don't have to put up a want to buy with "old style pivot" or "21 or classic shaped blade", no "pre-Idaho stamp" etc.

The 21 will be discontinued, but it will not be in with the new, out with the old immediately. I see it taking a couple of years like it took for the regular to be phased out into the 21. So yes, eventually the 21 will be replaced by the 25, but you 21 lovers out there still have some time.... :)

Agree on the pivot bushing. The Regular was actually not the original Sebenza...they looked much more like the Classic/21 Sebs. The only constant is change... ;)

I hope so. I want to get a large 21, but I was planning on waiting until next year so I have a chance to "deserve" it.

I know this is an old thread, but after a long CRK hiatus I just bought a plain jane large 21 with silver lugs (TrueNorth stocks them)... should be here tomorrow. I've always wanted the silver lug variant and figured the "free ship" code Neil offered for the holidays along with the 25's coming along it was time.

The simple and clean lines of the 21 do it for me.

Are the screws interchangeable with the Sebenza 21 & 25 other than the pivot screw. What will be the case with replacement screws down the road for the 21. I have found with past experience with model changes when they run out of parts there's no replacements. An example would be a older style pivot screw for the Mnandi that I needed after the change and they ran out of replacements.

Thanks,
Mike

It's really a shame that they're gonna replace the 21. The 25 just isn't a simple and elegant in my opinion... oh well, at least there's still a few years left.

I called Reeve and talked to Angela about two weeks ago and she said that the 21s were not going to be stopped being produced and they are not going to be making any custom 25s for at least a year, this includes inlays, damascus blades, everything. She said they decided to do it this way so that 1) they could catch up with all current 21 orders and special orders. 2) catch up with all repairs and spa treatments that they have to do and 3) so that they could make sure that the 25 was working well and that everything ran like a swiss watch before they started making custom versions. So I wouldn't guess they will make any custom 25s for at least a year and yes, they are still taking orders for the Sebenza 21. But that is just what Angela told me when I asked. She stressed very hard that they want to catch up with all outstansing 21 orders and repairs. I can't wait to see a 25 with a ladder or raindrop damascus blade. Now that will be beautiful. Later

I've exchanged a few emails with people at CRK and all have said there are no plans to discontinue the 21 "at this time"

My strategy is to get a couple of all of them :) My large and small Classics from 2005 have been carried, used, sharpened more times than I could possible count, and still lock up and perform like new. Of course there are some nice "character" scratches on them but the cool thing is there are so many other knives that have not aged so well as my Classics. I also have two 21 Insingos, Mnandi, and a S30V Zann so I have enough CRKs to outlast me even if the 21s are discontinued. Now I'm sell other knives so I can pick up a 25.
