EDIT: It wouldn't hurt to actually quote a header to let people know the general topic.

A deadly, airborne new strain of fungus has emerged in Oregon. It has killed nearly one out of four known affected people so far and might also attack animals ranging from dogs to dolphins. And it is likely to spread, researchers now warn.

that fungus is VERY COMMON here in BC, especially over on Vancouver Island. Lots of loggers have been hit with it, and several people including hikers have died.

this is why letting FOREST FIRES burn is very important. Fires destroy the fungus before it spreads too far. However many think each and every little fire should be put out.......

and this is the result......airborne fungus spores that kill

A neighbor of mine here in eastern Maine had a business roto-tilling and mowing fields. Through his work he came into contact with some sort of dustborne pathogen that very nearly killed him. This kind of stuff isn't strictly in the realm of African jungles. Nature is trying to compost us every minute!

Also selective logging, the 'green' types love to hate on loggers but when they take trees that are going to be rotting in ten years anyway, they are doing everyone a favor while still making money and generating building materials out of it.

log it mine it burn it pave it RACE IT!!!! Earth First, we'll log and mine and race the other planets later!

on a serious note though that fungus killed a 14 year old girl here who had been hiking on the trails. She complained of tight chest immedietly after the hike, then went into shock and respiratory arrest and died. It would make a great biological weapon .................

This is reminiscent of the media reports when Hanta virus first made its presence known in the Four Corners. Mowing down seemingly otherwise healthy people.

And on another forum recently I had someone trying to tell me that you should not use downed wood for a hobo stove because, "it's part of the environment. It breaks down so that nutrients go into the soil."

I was unreasonably irritated and wanted to punch throats, but I digress.

Wonder what happens when you burn wood... think that carbon might go back into the ground? Hmmm?

We're lucky to have Bushy! Stay strong you Canadians and Pacific NW folks! It's headed towards me so GOOD BYE!

Nature is always trying to kill us all. Eventually, it will. Keeping a strong immune system is the thing. Eat your fruits and vegetables. Take your vitamins.

LOL! I left the concrete years ago. Survival boils down to delaying the inevitable. No one gets out of here alive. ;)
