Good Evening, etc.

So I been on this here forum since the last milliiimmnnium...uhh century and I seen what a lotta forumites/knifesters look like, but I can't remember seeing ANY Black folks.
(Oh and for the PC crowd.... I was born in 1960. That's the word I use and will continue to use, since it mans no disrespect at all. For those that know me, ya know I give everyone a fair chance to prove they ain't an ass, no matter where their family tree's been planted, so if ya were gonna correct me, shuddup)

But I went to Blade Show, in Atlanta, and I saw a total of two black folks there. One was with another forumite that wasn't even into blades, and the other was an engraver.

OK, there was that big security dude in the back with a giant sword... I talked to him, told him I do Security too, but they only gimme guns. I said I bet he'd get less crap than I do!

Anyhow, what's up with the lack of brothers and sisters?

Am I the only one that ever thought about this or did anyone else and not wanna bring it up cuz of fear of the PC Police?

Oh, and if ya respond with any racist stuff, I can be fairly brutal. Jut thought I'd mention that.

This exact topic has been on my mind for awhile as well. But wasnt gonna ask in fear of attack. Not quite the exact topic, but the race of users in general.

The only one on bladeforums that i know is "Smoka 'Da Weed". Who'da guessed that.
 
So I guess that J.D. Smith didn't have a table at Blade then?

I know that we have at least one member of BFC that is black, but for the life of me I can't think of his name.

This is something that I have never even thought about.

Never crossed my mind really... I did see a guy post in the gallery under the Guns and Knives thread by the member name of GhettoMidget? Or something like that? And his avatar was the kid from that show ( whose name I can't remember right now...damn) where he says "Whatcha' talkin' bout Willus!?" Maybe he's black, or maybe just a fan of the show. Who knows, but he may be.

OK, Important stuff first.
I am not an expert in knives by any means, not have I (seriously, at least) ever claimed to be.
There was one black man that I had noticed at the show whose table I went to and saw "Engraving" written there.

Keith, I don't know JD Smith, and I suppose I missed him.
In any event, this post is in no WAY meant as an insult to any black people, makers especially.

I guess I'm getting interested in amateur anthropology or something. I'm gonna hit 43 in a few weeks and lately I've been real interested in people's cultures.
Wanna know what kicked it off? That movie "Jackass".
Didn't see anyone but white folks doing completely idiotic things, and the one black guy in the movie, while coaxing an idiotic stunt ooutta (Guess that typo's Canadian?) the Jackassiots, he was smart enough not to do it himself.
The subject has struck me as odd, and I thought if ANYone oughta post it, it oughta be me... someone who is hardly ever to be taken seriously, but once in a while come up with something profound.... according to some folks... personally, I think they're all nuts (and none of 'em black.. heh heh!)

I noticed many forumites are European (yeah, that includes Jews... and before anyone starts with the JEW thing, I AM one, ok!)

Aww hell, you know what I mean! Like I said, unless ya prove you're an ass, I'll be a pal, no matter where ya DNA starnds were twisted!
But that got me thinking... Europeans were pretty big on blades for centuries, and so were Orientals... (I even heard a rumor that the Japanese in particular were slightly interested)
Never heard much about Africans being all involved with blades though, at least not in anything other than purely utilitarian purposes.
OK< I'll shuddup now... either I jumped off the ledge and have folks totally despise me, or they "get me"....
Lord help 'em if it's the latter!

Back on topic, I don't think about it much. I think out of 100 of us... 68 are white, 20 are Hispanic, 10 are Asian and the other two are Black. Keep in mind, only 12% of the population of the U.S. is African American.
 
Now, what percentage of the 12% of African Americans are knifeknuts? Certainly not 1/2. No wonder you can't find them:p

If my memory is correct, Anthony Cheeseboro (hope I spelled that right-it looks wrong but I don't know what I'd change) and King Grinch are black.

I met a black knife-knut on the Long Island Railroad.

Here I am sitting in one of the end-seats, situated so that you can't look over my shoulder, engrossed in an issue of Tactical Knives while getting home relatively late one night. All sorts of business folk and sheeple sitting around reading and what-not.

The conductor comes in, who's this black dude, takes my ticket, punches it, puts it back on the seat cliip and then I sort of feel his presence standing there. "You into knives?", he asks - the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end as heads start bobbing, bodies get restless and ears pricking up.

Well, uh, -- yeah, I say. "Damn! I've got one at home I really love. Do you take this train everyday? I'll bring it tomorrow," he said.

I produced a Darrel Ralph Mad Maxx and show it to him. He starts waving it around, practically, and folks look like they're really getting riled, but since it's the conductor involved in this discussion, they don't say anything untoward.

As it happened, I did not take that train all the time, as my visits to the big city are sporadic for client visits. But I can honestly say I met a black knife-knut.

But, the fact is that I have often thought to myself when at knife shows including Bladeshow, "Wow, this is a very white male crowd.... almost like a Luteran potluck dinner."

Funny, I would say most, if not all Africans (natives anyway) have blades. I have a few from Africa dated 1957. Three are from 12" to 24" and are spear heads. Two are knives, made by their hands also, made with ivory and ebony, and not just for utilitarian uses as they are very ornate.

I would say if you just took the percentage of the different races and applied them to this forum, it would work out that there are probably only a few "Blacks" on this forum. One of the advantages of forums can be in staying anonymous though...

VG, I am not miffed at all, sorry if it appeared that way. My question about J.D. was just that, a question. I was not sure if he was there or not. I just went and checked the exhibitor list and it appears he wasn't.

I have not been to a knife show in many years, so I have not been around a large congregation of knife people. That being the case, I don't really get the opportunity to see what ethnic groups make up the fabric of the knife community. The fact is that I have never really thought about this at all. I am sure that if I went to a show and almost every person I saw was white, the same question would come to my mind.
 
When I was at the NYC knife show I saw zero black african americans.
I felt some of the "white folks" were happy to be amongst themselves....

I don´t know about black knife nuts. but i I know a black girl who was into a pale knife nut(me).... my ex girlfriend. she got me a beautifull lagouiole.

Maybe Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow Push Coalition will come after Bladeforums, for not having enough black members.
