are there any drawbacks to infi?

it's almost as though its "too good to be true" so i was wondering since i just purchased a BM-E if there is anything i should know about proper care taking beyond what is normal since this steel seems to be anything bbut normal.

its very good in a lot of areas, but its not "perfect". it will still rust, and it will still roll and mash and dent and be annoying to sharpen like any other steel out there :D

if you get a satin blade and intend on storeing it, make sure its oiled before stashing it away. its worth using militec on the open blade once a week if your in really salty area like on a boat for extended periods of time.

try not to leave mud on it if you can avoid it.

its not stainless, but it is stain resistent. its carbon content is low compared to most "high carbon" steels - but it will still rust if left in a wet environment for extended periods of time. make sure not to let things that maintain moisture rest on it for long periods of time without oiling the contact surface.

sand out any rust you see to avoid pitting....

if you see a dent in the edge - try to sharpen or burnish it out before chopping with it again. if you leave the dent there and chop with it - it will get worse much faster then if you sharpened it. by putting it at an angle (dented edge), your gaurenteed to roll it even harder every time you slam it against the wood or whatever your chopping.

pretty much your average knife care and maintenance.

thanks for all the info on infi. it is definately what im looking for in a steel.

If you intend to cut Sod or other really gritty material you will likely be happier with a Swamp Rat knife.

Same with chopping mild steel.

For a big knife cutting soft materials like flesh/wood/leather/ clean rope, or most bone, where you hit something hard like a rock or nail only once in a while then INFI seems to be the best so far.

Wow, a lot of "experts" have really missed the boat.

That INFI is horrible!

You should send that BME to me so that I can dispose of it properly.

It's a public service I supply.
