Hello all,

I am looking for a reference book on knives. One that has information on different steel types, definations, terms. A large general information book, kind of like a knife lovers dictionary.

Any recommendations on a large informative reference type book would be greately appreciated. Thank you.

The Internet!!! I know it isn't a book, but I have been looking for the thing you mentioned and have come to a conclusion: it doesn't exist. So, I'm making my own!! There is a ton of stuff on this site, and lots of other info elsewhere. Save it all and print it off, put it in a binder and then you have a custom made reference book!

Two sources have worked for me in what you described. Engnaths writings in the Blades N Stuff catalog, available online at http://www.knives.com and "The Complete Bladesmith" by Jim Hrisoulas. Charts and listings of different steels with their compositions and properties, instructions for heat treats, the reasons steels do the things that they do, grinding tecniques, all kinds of stuff. Pricey, but worth it.
