Are there any 'modern' advancements that would make traditionals better

Yes, it sounded like you'd only ever found one modern you liked well enough to buy, I was curious, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Oh no man. Don't be sorry. Your quick question surprised me a bit. :)

Yeah, it's just a good knife for the money.

I never had as many moderns as I do trads. Gave the rest away. I got a Sanrenmu 710 a while back and thought it was great for the (less) dollars as well. Missed my traditionals and gave it to my son, thus completely avoiding any complicated ethical issues;).

I don't own as many traditionals as I'd like... I have a really good Case, couple old Schrades. I love them but usually I can't find inexpensive "bargain" traditionals which I would like--usually handle materials are higher end--I'll always need a few though, traditionals are where it started for me as a boy, my dad and granddad had a few.

Interestingly, I first learned of one-hand openers because my dad got one somewhere along the line, he carried it for quite awhile, I was really surprised. He's gone back to traditionals since then.

My great-grandad whom I was very privileged to know had quite a few very old traditionals... his grandson got most stuff, but I'm hoping to take a look at the old collection sometime.

Old Schrades are the knife I have most of. If you start searching and are selective it won't take too long to get a few inexpensively.

The search is the prize, grasshopper.

When I was young, maybe 9 or 10, I was playing with my older brother out by an old shed that was on our property. We'd been out there before but once summer I noticed something sticking out, it was pocket knife.

After we did some digging we found 6 or 7 similar pocket knives laying there in the dirt like that, all Old Timer Schrade traditionals. I'd gotten my first knife at 6 but hadn't gotten many after that, it was really cool. We took em inside and cleaned them up as best we could. Took awhile even with help. My dad help on to most of them for awhile since he didn't want us having so many at once. I never did figure out why a bunch of fairly nice folders were dumped in the dirt like that.

I love both traditional and modern folding knives and agree with previous posters that most changes would render the knife non-traditional. However, if there is one thing I wish traditional knives had that most moderns do it's a sharp factory edge. Of course this comment is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but seriously most factory edges on traditional knives are dreadful... Although I have seen improvement recently.

Just won this auction for $100... raindrop damascus. It will be carried.

Stainless damascus is one of those improvements.

(Oops, this one is Devin Thomas carbon damascus)

Nice!

It doesn't seem like "your" kind of knife, but I guess it is, and it looks great!

A lockback on a barlow? NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!

It's been on my list of knives to get for a while. :D

I needed something that was a bit more sheeple friendly than pulling out a 5.5" DDR.
