Are There Any Original BF Members Still Here?

I’ve been around 23+ years, but I don’t post much. I did lurk for a while before I got a membership.
Almost everything’s been said and said again, so I only try to post when I have something unique to say. And then someone usually says it before I get to it, so not many posts. It’s a nice forum though. Glad it’s around still.

I joined in 1999 and it was such a revolution and an eye-opener for me that next thing I knew, I was at the Blade Show two months later!
Have been away for a while as I was working hard making knives for the quickly evolving Gastronomy market in Brazil but am glad I decided to take a look at the forums one day some six months ago and it was all it took for me to come back.
I have met a lot of good people here, a few of whom I still get in touch ocasionally, and have sold, bough or traded a lot of stuff here too. One bad experience or two but it was too little to compare with all the deals that went beyond fine and a lot of trust was built in the process,
At this forum we saw the birth of a new era in the world of knives, with custom knives getting more and more sophisticated and production knives following close, many colaborations, many fads and trends - some survived, some didn´t, as well as the many successfull knifemakers that started their careers asking questions and showing their stuff here. I could go on forever but it is enough to say that the whole knife industry owes a lot of its evolution to this place - I certainly do.
It is sad that some great people are no longer around -I especially miss Uncle Bill and think of him everytime I see a khukuri - and It was great to see so many familiar names on this thread.
Guess I got a lttle carried away!

I just wanted to add one more response to my thread. Boy, I appreciate all your responses and you all bring back so many great memories. I can’t even remember most of those memories anymore due to my “older age” but I do remember the thrills of getting our first computer all those years ago and finding a forum about knives that was my passion way back then and still is.

Like Thomas Wolfe said long ago that you can’t go home again, but my times on the early days of this forum are priceless and still brings back warm feelings of times gone by that I will always remember.

As being away for a good while here and trying to become involved again to a certain degree, I’ve made some recent threads here that have drawn controversy and for that I apologize if I offended anyone as that was not my intentions. I do see they brought many responses and opinions and that’s what a discussion forum is all about.

To you folks that have been aboard for a good while and not as long as us original members, thanks for your replies. Your experiences here are as valuable as us “original” members.

All in all, knives are wonderful tools and and have been around since the dawn of man and the scope of the diverse variations of them make them a beautiful subject to explore. Peace to all and good health!
