Are there any Spyderco or Kershaw knives that would comply with the German knife law?

If the relative in question is a gardener by trade, wouldn't a locking knife be acceptable, as it is for work (bolded in quote). If so, I would go with a spyderco endura.

Yes, one of my relatives is a professional gardener and serrated or partly serrated Endura knife would be just fine.

Cold Steel Black Rock Hunter is the ideal knife for this. It's two-hand open only and the mechanism that keeps the blade open is extremely strong & safe, even though it's totally non-locking. Gotta give props to Lynn Thompson for being innovative.

We had this discussion with the folks from the German knife forums while at the IWA show in March. The conclusion that we reached was that a one hand opener that didn't lock would probably be the "safest" to carry with regards to the new law.

The UK Pen knife and the Urban are two Spyderco's. The smaller byrd Wings 70mm model is also a slip joint.

We also have a new Bob T design that uses ball bearings as detents to act as a slip-joint. Should be out in a few months.

I'm absolutely smitten with the new Byrd BY21. One hand opening dual blade (one serrated, one plain) slipjoint with stainless bolsters, G10 scales and pocketclip. Blades are about 7cm. Fit and finish is flawless. Easy on the wallet. Sounds like it will fit the description.

Sal,

Thank you very much. I think the Byrd Wings knife would be a good choice, at least for our "gardener".

I'm looking forward for the upcoming Bob T!

My Best Wishes,
