I'm finally finishing up a big dagger I started along time ago and I'm thinking about making a sheath for it out of wood. Problem is I've never made a sheath out of wood! :D
I've got the basic idea but I sure would like to read some how to's before I start hacking up some good wood! I still have some clean up work to do on the handle and the pommel.
Here's a couple pix of the knife.

I think there's a book by Bo Bergman called "Knifemaking" The title itself is a misnomer, as he just outs the handles on pre-fabricated blades, but there is some stuff I found useful on stacked handles and sheaths.

There is a Bill Moran video called "Handles, guards and sheaths". It this video,Bill Moran makes a wooden sheath. This can probably be purchased through the ABS.

Thanks guys!!!
The links led me to some excellent information and I don't think I'll have any problems with the sheath now!!!
I was thinking about picking up a couple real small magnets, about 3/16" or 1/8" diameter. I can't recall the name of em right now, but the ones that are really powerful. I was thinking about using them to hold the sheath and knife together. I could drill holes in the end of the sheath and glue the magnets in and then cover them with thin wood plugs so they wouldn't show or scratch the guard.
Any of this make any sense to you guys?? :D

l6....i know a few people who made some cool knife blocks like that....they are earth magnets you are thinking of i think.....it just depends on the weight of what u wanna support and how many magnets u got......ryan
