I'm questioning because of the large "police" and "military" lettering written on them. Just the spyderco logo appears on the company website's pics...are these older?

There are tons of different variations of stamping, engraving, lettering. Just trying to get all the different Police would be a great hobby if someone enjoys "the Hunt".

Only thing odd there is the combination of the lettered Police and the new red/black box. Have seen them before with both the lettering and the bug, but alway in the older grey/web box. But, as Zen indicated, Spyderco changes things in no particular order, so it's quite possible the box change came shortly before the letttering was dropped and at least a few shipped that way. So yes, almost certainly authentic and probably a year or so "old', although perhaps it's the "next new just released version". ;) Military is simply an older version.
