Are these scales any good?

Just looked up the black/turquoise ones and damn are they sexy. Price is bit steep but I might have to pull the trigger on those.

I have 2 pairs of them and they are great. Michael is a good guy and makes a quality product. The 1st set I bought there was a shipping problem so he sent another set right out. Then both of them showed up. He was so nice about it that I offered to buy them to do a GAW here. He gave them to me free to give away. Nice guy, great product. I also have a set of black that came on a 2 I bought that might have come from him as well but I'm not sure since they came on the knife when I bought it.

Nice, I wish he'd had OD when I ordered my black ones. I guess I'll have to bug him about that.

How, exactly is the pricing a "bit steep"?

Certainly not compared to prices of the Natural canvas Micarta Factory scales.

Saint offers several colors of hand made Canvas Micarta a G-10 scales .. for the same price as the cheapest source of natural canvas factory scales when shipping is figured in.

While he is not giving them away for free, they certainly cost no more than any comparable scales...

From all the pictures I've seen of saintcutlery's micarta it appears they are a bit thicker and more contoured than the Kabar micarta (well the full size Beckers at least).

Is this very noticeable in person? Does anyone not like the grip as compared to the Kabar micarta?

They look very nice I'm just not sure about the thickness/ contour...

They are noticeably thicker than the grivory. The factory sheath no longer fits the BK-2. It's no big deal for me, really. I just ordered some AZwelke kydex for my BK-2.

As far as the contour goes, I like how the Saint scales feel, but I'm going to have to do some sanding and shaping on mine. Even with the factory grivory installed, the bottom palm swell causes Becker knives to cant to the right when I hold them in a saber grip, which is my preferred knife grip for most chores. And with the Saint micarta installed, this problem is even more pronounced. So I'm going to reshape the bottom swell on the right-side scale and make it thinner where the heel of my palm makes contact. This should make it so the knife is aligned properly when I hold it in the saber grip.

These are the saint scales? What color are these?

They are what they call OD green. The picture shows them a little more green than they really are for some reason. They are close though. They come looking lighter but after getting the oil from your hands on them they darken up nicely.

Mine certainly does.

Ah...I should have been more specific. The scales are wide enough that the mouth of the sheath is now permanently bent outwards. It still locks in, but it bows the two sides of the sheath away from each other big time. On top of that, the scales are just barely too big around for me to get the security strap snapped close, so it's all floppy when it's on my belt.

It must be my particular set. The ebay page did say that the Saint scales will vary in size a bit. It's not a problem for me. I always hate factory sheaths anyway. This just gave me an excuse for some new kydex. :D

I removed the belt strap completely and installed a Tek-lok but, I use a Spec-Ops short sheath now anyways. ;)
