I am new to knife sharpening; I have an opportunity to get 3 DMT dia-sharp contiuous stones for a good price, (hardly used). They are 6" x 2" in coarse, fine and extra fine; my kitchen knives are 6" to 10" and my camping knives are between 3" and 7"; would these stones be large enough? I was also told I would need a ceramic stone like the Spyderco ulta fine, maybe a 8" x 2". Do you think this would work for me and would I also need a strop? I am really starting from scratch and could use your help. Thanks.

They will work but the 11 inch stones would be better.. Bigger/longer is better with hand stones..

tucson,Those stones will work. But I'd get the Spyderco ceramic fine stone and a strop as well. Which will give you really good results.DM
