Are these two knives and sheaths the same?

I don't think that was ever an issue. And, for the record, he's already offered that; even including letting me have - and use - this knife while he makes a new one.

So now the only real issues are: Why the difference in colors (curiosity question) and: What do I do about it? aka: Are the colors really that important?

Pondering.

I have black sheaths for black belts and red/brown for brown. Just saying :)

Same knife, different lighting….case solved, you’re welcome

no.

I now think they are the same knife in light of new information and the observations of others.

I wouldn't worry too much about colors, real or perceived.

Sounds like your maker is cooperating - that's good. I think the color is important insofar as that the client is happy with his purchase. If I had ordered a knife in black micarta and got one in ivory micarta instead, I would not be pleased. I believe part of buying a custom made knife is to get what you want, isn't it? It should be a rewarding experience rather than "I'll take what I can get."

This is why I don't particularly care for selling things online. You just can't please everyone.
The other reason is , if I tried to sell 50 dollars for 40 dollars, someone would send me an offer for 25 dollars.

This. Of course it doesn't functionality affect the knife, but it absolutely is aesthetically different than what you asked for. Send it back, get the updated one. You will be happier.

Maker sent me another e-mail offering a complete refund.

My response: "Screw it, I'm keeping it. I asked for a knife - what I got was a Freaking TANK!" (Or words to that affect).

I mean look at this, does it or does it not just scream End of the World Knife:

Another pic, with my SRK-C photobombing the pic:

In the first pic, taken near dusk, you can barely see some of the green in the micarta handles. The sun also brings out some of the brown in the sheath as well.
