Are we really prepared?

Something to read then realize that you don't want go far.

amazing book.

It is not dependency when people's faith inspires them to fight through to a successful outcome. We aren't denigrating your principles. Please show others the same courtesy.

even the USAF SERE manual recommends a strong spiritual belief as a helpful aspect to survival situations.

I see mental effects starting very early, and continuing.

Study prisoners might be good.
For prisoners, there is a Long-term, and there are witnesses,
who write about the happenings.

Man's Search for Meaning
by Viktor E. Frankl (authors name spelled different ways)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man's_Search_for_Meaning

http://www.amazon.com/Mans-Search-Meaning-Viktor-Frankl/dp/0671023373

First half of the book describes actual happening and second half more
about theory. This is a Classic Book.

I liked the Gonzales book also.

At the risk of sounding pretentious, Deep Survival had a profound effect on my thinking, and not only in respect to the outdoors.

Deep Survival and 98.6 Degrees should be on school reading lists.

Just (as in right now) bought On Combat and The Gift Of Fear. I'd read reviews of The Gift Of Fear in CH, but not got round to buying it, and I'd seen Lt. Col. Dave Grossman in the excellent, two part documentary, The Truth About Killing, details, here.

Great thread guy's!

In a previous post,
I recommended Man's Search for Meaning, a true story of mental aspects, as well as,
actions taken by a Jew in a Nazi concentration camp. His actions were those of a selfless
volunteer, which in the end helped save his life.

I would like to recommend a movie which takes a different view:
Hombre (I did not read the novel.)
http://www.amazon.com/Hombre-Paul-Newman/dp/B000063US1
The interconnections of the characters and the environment are so logical. Tight writing!
A man drawn into the conflicts of others; what to do?
It is a great western. And a classic moral dilemma, beyond the western genre.
Even non-western fans and non-survival fans will be shaking their heads with
so many ideas from this movie.

my $0.02:

none of us will know how prepared, or not, we are until it's too late to start preparing.

Three things that will undoubtedly keep my spirits up in a survival situation:

1. Faith in the Lord
2. Music (singing, harmonica, etc.)
3. Relationships (assuming I'm with someone)
