Are you a khukuri collector or user?

Hi All,
I wish that I could be a Collector.....
So I'm a user, I try to get blades that fit certain needs. That's why I usually look to the various "Villagers" and one "Not for sale REJECT" that has worked out very well. I even have a "real" HI 20"AK. If it can't earn its keep, I can't afford it. I don't abuse my tools just to see where the limits are. But, make no mistake, they get a real work out.

I suppose I've abused a few in my time.

I tell ya though, one o' them there shop 2 sirupatis chopped through _big_ nails without even feeling it.

That's the one I keep in the truck.

On the other hand, I just haven't had the gumption to do hard testing on the Yvsa special and Garud.

Getting timid in my old age, I guess!

You are correct, Uncle.

I've taken to referring to it as the "Yvsa special", though I understand Yvsa's cousin helped out too.

And not to mention the kami who originally made the sirupati and went that extra mile by hardening the tang as well as the blade!

In any case the knife is now just too pretty for me to go chopping things up and messing up the finish. Yvsa made it _very_ sharp, also...

It looks like the hardened-tang problems are over now, anyway. And the one that's point got bent during lateral flex testing was a long thin villager which was definitely _not_ made of HI's traditional spring steel.

I've also been too much of a coward to do any chopping with Garud, though at 19" and 9/16" thick, that particular AK is a beast, and I would be STUNNED if I could do any damage at all.

I wonder if Garud would go through nails, though...
