Are you an equal opportunity knife lover?

I've never been a fan of Boker, but after getting a Nano (Curtiss collaboration) and Albatros (Anso collaboration) I'm on great terms with them. Both are excellent value for money, I really like the Exkelsimoor too but it's a little too.... economically made. Yet it prompted me into contacting Burger Knives. Basically as long as it's well built, especially for the money, I'll try anything.

There's a really nice Limited Edition Orange Boker Nano I've been eyeballing. I thought I had bought it but apparently my payment never went through. So when I found out I kind of stepped back and began wondering if I should commit to purchasing it or just let it pass this time.

The choices we have to make sometimes...

I have and use all sorts of odds and ends, from William Henrys, Benchmade gold class knives and my heavily pimped Spyderco Southard down to a $25 aluminum CRKT Ripple that I've carried a lot. All sorts of different locks and blades and colors. Recurves? Yep. Chinese cheapos? Throw in a handful. Silly tanto blades? Sure, why not. Pretty, jewelry like knives? Yes. Useless, brain-damaged, poorly constructed chisel ground Emerson piece of crap? Got it. Wharncliffes? Yep. And so on . . .

That said, I don't like the term equal opportunity knife lover--I prefer the more accurate "slutty knife whore". ;)

For folders, I love Kershaw, and Kershaw is my usual EDC. I also like Cold Steel(cause I like owning big folders, and CS pretty much corners the market there). Spyderco makes good knives, but a lot of them don't appeal to me aesthetically so I don't own as many as I might otherwise. Nothing against the quality, I just collect as much because of looks as because of use. Since I have plenty of good useable folders for my needs already, any other folder I buy is primarily a matter of aesthetics and feel in hand, and while Spyderco has a good feel in hand, the designs themselves often don't hook me at all(I have absolutely 0 interest in the much touted Southard for example, cause I consider it rather ugly). CRKT have a few designs I like, but I usually find something I like more from another company, and wind up passing...they do have some sweet looking stuff in the 2013 lineup though so maybe I'll add more of their stuff to my collection this year. Have yet to see a Benchmade that I want bad enough to pay their prices for, and I can't justify paying several hundred dollars for a single knife, so customs or high end knives like Sebenzas(also a hideous knife that I wouldn't buy even if I won the lotto tomorrow) are right out...once I start thinking of paying a few hundred for a blade, I'm more likely to just opt for ordering a sword or something. I usually shy away from most non-Kershaw cheap knives(they often just feel junky in the hand) but occasionally one will catch my eye, hence why I have a couple of S&W knives in my collection as well.

For fixed blades, Cold Steel, Mora, and Kabar do well for me. For even bigger fixed blades and machetes, I love my Condors and Aranyiks, Cold Steel and Imacasa can be made good as well as long as you don't put putting some work into them to get them useable first(or order from Baryonyx here, and have 42Blades do the work for you).

Although I do seek out certain knives specifically to collect, I also enjoy buying and accumulating a wide variety of knives and bladed items. Traditional pocketknives, unusual locks and mechanisms, bayonets, khukris, modern folders, hunting knives, survival knives...

Is your EDC rotation mostly homogenous or do you enjoy using a wide variety of knife styles?

I have only a few knives that I actually carry and use: A small fixed blade, traditional pocketknife, multi-tool, an Opinel, and a couple of Swiss Army Knives.

Have expensive knives spoilt you?

Absolutely not. Bought a few moderately-expensive pocketknives this week, but I also couldn't pass up a $17 Wenger on sale at [insert name of local discount department store]. :)

Gotta admit, I'm predjusted. Only buy US made. So I have mainly Benchmades and Kershaws. Would have more Kershaws but some of the models I like are made elsewhere.

No reason to be stifled just because you prefer American-made products. There's so much out there besides Benchmade and Kershaw.

I bought a few American knives this week, and the quality of each was excellent, on par with the best imports. Check out Canal Street Cutlery, some higher-end Queen knives, and Great Eastern's brands if you get a chance. Becker Knife and Tool are made in the USA also, as are ESEE. Many of the best Buck knives are still made in the USA, in Idaho now.

eBay is chock-full of quality American-made knives that are out of production. Look for original Schrade-USA (Old Timer, Uncle Henry, Imperial, etc.), Camillus, and others.

Case is OK, beautiful knives, but I recommend purchasing in person to avoid getting a stinker.

Add in Ka-Bar, Ontario, Bark River, and an endless list of custom makers.

I am absolutely an "Equal Opportunity Knife Lover". I really like my Rat-1, my SRM710 & 763, my Cryo and Skyline, CS Voyager, Tenacious.... There are some excellent budget knives out there. I am very lucky with respect to the fact I can afford the occasional Sebenza and higher end production knives, but I still love a bargain. If I did have to stick to a stricter budget it would certainly not be the end of the world.

I definitely consider myself an equal opportunity knife lover. While I've had a tendency up to this point to stick with a handful of companies even from them I get a variety of styles. As my funds allow I hope to expand both in companies and styles as well.

For the moment, not an equal opportunity knife lover. I've been gravitating towards
Spyderco for edc folders- namely my caly 3. Went through the phase of trying
all sorts of knife designs that I initially thought were appealing- most have not
survived the chopping block. The expensive knives have not spoiled me.

That being said, I am a curious creature so if a knife does pop up that is interesting,
be it design or material, I just may spring for it.
