Are you ashamed of your hobby?

Where i live it is different , it is hard to find any grone man who does not carry a good knife . But when we run into a liberal now and then it is just like the subject of "guns" or "hunting" you educate people alittle bit and always show the utmost in resposibility to be a great example to all (i am also a pro hunter) . As far as collecting , people say "well you can spend that much on a knife because you need it " , that is not true . For years i carried a eye brand big sodbuster because it cost 20 dollars and cut flesh like a laser. I dont share all my knives with everyone cause if my wife found out what i spend on knives she would call the familly to do an "intervention".

You know, i can't even believe there are people who would think twice about someone hving a pocket knife or knife collection. I've never even heard of such a thing.

"But I save the Democrats for dinner"
-Probably get a little more meat out of a Republican.

All the people I work with (dock staff not the office people) know I'm a knife nut. They don't ask me if I have a knife, they just ask for one.

Anyone who knows me, knows I collect knives and many of them ask me if I have bought one lately; have a number of guns, too but where I live (Wyoming) neither one is a problem; over the years I have had a few react to guns but never knives per se.

I make knives and tell everyone I feel like. If they don't like it, they can suck an egg. I have no tolerance for stupid sheep who are afraid of the oldest and most used tool/creation of mankind.

i love sharing any knowledge that i gain with fellow knife nut and everybody i know nows im a knife nut

whatever a person's hobby, there will be those that question its validity.

we (here on bfc) just tend to be a little more understanding of other people's hobbies since ours can be polarizing.

and scary!

:p

Depends who I'm talking to.
If I meet a new lady I'm interested and she asks what are some of my hobbies, I might be reluctant to say I own a lot or collect knives.

I am the same, get to know a bit about each other first and then I would let a romantic interest in on my knife ways, if only to then test her mindset on it, some ladies I think would never be comfortable with it no matter what, and I'm not sorry to say I would then not be interested in knowing them any longer.

i feel naked without mine. my only true friends are ones that share my same interests, foremost of which being knives and tomahawks. i didnt plan it that way, we just migrate together naturally. even in school, i slip a small CRKT kiss in the top of my boot, just so i feel complete. no one ever sees it but it doesnt matter if they did, i feel like it should be there.

Ashamed? No. Do I advertise it? No. Do I hide it? No. I'll carry a knife and use it like there's nothing unusual because it really isn't.

I'm not ashamed at all. The way I see it one should always be proud of who they are, not hide it.

I give knives. My brother in law still talks about those I’ve given him over the years. There have been a couple of times I’ve used a knife and gotten the silly please don’t cut me or ew ew scary knife thing. I just look at them like I don’t understand their reaction, they’ll compound their silliness with something like, do you use that for protection. No, it’s a knife, I use it to cut stuff, my pistol is for protection.

Last week I walked into the office of the Peace River camp ground, both my wife and I had on new neck knives I just built, one of the women at the counter liked them and commented, I guess she thought they symbolized something because she asked what does it mean, I said that I could cut stuff, she laughed.

Most of the people I know have and use knives, they fish a lot down here and spend a lot of time on boats, knives are common. It’s an effort to remember to leave them at home if I have to go into any government building or put them in my luggage when I have to fly.

I have more than I need but I have been buying knives that interested me for a very long time.

According to what I’ve read on these pages I must be blind to the whole knives are for assassins thing.

I think radial arm saws and routers are scary tools.

die grinders have their scary moments. I think we are seeing the folks who lack a sense of self sufficiency [i'll just call the cops, meanwhile the mayhem is ON] call others for help, can't change their own oil or fix a small window, never even think about it depending on the service of others and that extends to self protection which in my book is a mistake that can get one killed, as in dead. They are trying to spread their shortcomings onto the rest of us when they gasp at the sight of a knife, trying to enforce their sensibility on the populace so they AGAIN don't have to worry about their lack of fortitude or what have you. Half or more of this country ran away from 911, there were almost no military sign-ups among our young folk after the attacks....times are changing.

How many knife people do you know that tell every one about knives and how much fun they are?

Yes!

Who calls themselves a knife nut and never lets anyone know about them and knives.
surely not this knife nut!

Do all the folks in your church know about your knives.
again, Yes. In fact, I am the only person I know who as had to be taken directly from chruch to the hospital to get lots of stitches. I severed the nerve in my right thumb, while using my first hand made knife, I guess I made it too sharp. I was peeling and slicing up apples for the kiddies in nursery. One bobble of the blade later and a huge spray of blood and the rest is legend.

Do the folks you work with know how you feel about knives.
For sure. My first day of work at the office, I think the secretary was a bit afraid of me.

My ex-boss had no interest in knives, to the point he doesn't even have one on his boat [idiot]. He even mocked me a bit with the knives I had in my toolbox, I told him he ruined it and I would never have one lying on the workbench again, but at that point he somewhat relented, and said he really wasn't that way, well, I did lecture him briefly as to the knife being the primary tool which brought about a more civilized world and that was about the extent of it, but jeezum, the guy's a mechanic! wtf....
