Are you in good physical shape?

Well,I'm 77+ & have shrunk to 6' 2" .Weight around 207 + _ . Curl 7# weights about 10 minutes each morning . VA clinic rates me with 120/70 BP .

To me,a most important thing at advanced age is mental fitness. I read a lot & do puzzles up the wazoo. I buy them direct so it averages about 12 $ a month.

Wish I could do more but my Korean war problem holds me back.

Uncle Alan...:D

Lots of similar threads have been posted over in Wilderness--the idea being that fitness is one of the best tools you can have in a survival situation. I started a similar thread there myself a while back and then, upon doing a Search, found that others had posted similar thoughts over the years.

I could stand to lose about 10 to 15 pounds myself, but I'm in decent shape. I still play softball, run, kayak, and hike.

Im 35 225lbs. I cant run for crap. Im lucky to run 1.5 miles in 15minutes. Thats` what i did 3 weeks ago and was spent. I dont run. I bench around 350 raw, squat close to 500 raw and can deadlift around 650. I pulled 500 for 12 reps with straps but my grip is weak.

Pretty impressive Matt... but I bet you're one of them pretty boy backs! More concerned with messin' up your hair than making a tackle!

Just pokin' some fun at you, I'm jealous! I am the same age and had to retire at age 30 from playing first row. Just couldn't do it anymore with the body parts I had. Got some new ones, but have never regained the level of fitness I once had.

Being a back is like being a spectator. I was a second row for my first 15 years, for the last 8 I have been a loosehead prop. If I was a back I wouldnt even know what to do wit all my spare time. I would love to make it two more years, and get to 25 years playing.

With a screen name like Mongo you had to be a front row.

RugbyMatt... my brutha from anutha mutha! Loose-head prop for 8+ yrs. Only played tight-head once in a blue moon, and HATED it. It always seemed you could wreak more havoc while being a loose-head. I pulled the shorts clear off my opposing tight-head on the very first scrum at a tournament in Louisville... () He started bitchin' at me in the scrum, but I pointed out that my actions were probably catching the eyes of every hot babe on the sidelines, and he could thank me later at the party.
Damn, I miss rugby.:(

Fit? Me? Yep. :)

5'11", 170#, bench 260, squat 450, leg press 500. 8 minute miles (which considering I've a bad leg isn't bad), and I can run through the mountains like a deer. :D

5'10" 211# @ 40.

Also a former Prop (Tight-head). Still occaisionally play OldBoys, Bad knees and all.

As of last May I can Swim a mile, Hike 7, and Bench Press 360# 11 times. (It hurt but I did it).

Fit...maybe.

6'8" tall, 265 pounds, 61 years old. Don't run anymore since I broke a metatarsal in left foot. Walk a lot, do high intensity weight workouts. Don't do bench presses due to rotator cuff problems, but I can do 10-12 dumbbell pullovers with 75 pounds, which people on the weight training forums seem to think is pretty good for an old fart.

I'm 18, 5'5" 265 lbs

I bench 400, can't run or do squats very well because I have deformed hips but I still squat 320 or so, I could definitely stand to lose 10 or so pounds, but I'm fairly happy with my body. Last time I deadlifted I did 450, but it's probably gone up by now.

I'm 5'10" and weigh 140lbs. So I'm not overweight or anything.

I do not have a work out schedule or anything. I am on my feet ~10 hours a day though for my job. I'm a car mechanic so crawling under cars, wrenching, lifting tires, etc is a daily thing for me. I'm "active" I guess, I don't sit at a desk.

I haven't bench pressed anything in years, and the last time I ran the mile was in highschool. I'm probably only good for an 8-9 minute mile now. My legs are stronger than my upper body, maybe I can bench 150? All guesses really.

I would say I'm in decent shape; 6' 1" and 217 lbs. I do have age on my side still though at 23! I play 2 intramural sports (softball and football) and was working out (cardio and weights) 5 times a week until a couple of months ago. Now it is more sporadic. This medical school schedule is the main thing getting in the way of that.

Don't really have too many stats but here are the ones I do know:

Bench Press: 270 lbs. (maxed out last month)

Leg Press: 950 lbs. (last month)

Don't really max out on much else for risk of injury.

Fought in Tae Kwon Do matches in college but haven't done that in a couple of years. In high school I ran cross country as one of my many sports and broke 16 min on a 5K often. Easily broke 5 min. for mile runs. Now I hate running but am pretty sure I could still break 6:30 min. on a mile if necessary. As far as distance before I pass out who knows!

I read this somewhere a while back:

Men's health claims the most weight the average person will bench in their lifetime is 180. Average most weight the average person will claim to have benched in the past after strugling to bench 180: 300 lbs:

Always makes me take people's claims with a pretty big grain of salt.

I would say on an exercise/weight lifting forum that's probably very true. Being in the gym often I have seen guys tell me weights that were basically impossible to lift for their size (if someone says they lift olympic weights then why aren't they in the olympics :-) so your point is definitely valid. But I have to say why would anybody on a knife forums website have reason to lie. You could definitely be right about someone lying but what's the point. We are here to mainly talk about knives, not about physical fitness so anybody lame enough to lie about it must have some self-confidence problems.

Not trying to cause a stir but I've found in and out of gyms some equally incredible claims. People tend to quote numbers they lift on a machine, partial ranges of motion, extrapolations, and even straight up fabrications.

For years I was amazed at how poor of shape I was in for how much time I spent on exercise and nutrition... when I compared my fitness level to the claims of those I spoke to casually. (Note, I wasn't the one bringing up 'the numbers' and comparing).

Ironicly though when I'm in the gym, I'm rarely wowed by the strength and speed of those actually working out. But apparently those guys you never actually see... they are capable of some crazy numbers. :D

Not to be a jerk but this thread is somewhat of a prime example as a casual forum of blade collectors is relatively chock full of 5 min milers and 300+ pound benchers.

I'm sure the occasional claim is accurate but keep in mind this is a 1% population (or less) in the real world.

I can bench over 100 pounds, but probably less than 150. Can't see a reason to bench more. I run 50 to 100 yard dashes regularly for work, but 110 yards would leave me gasping. My hands, legs and shoulders are very strong, as I pull heavy weight daily at work. 49 years old, 5'10", 265 pounds. I am not mean, but have a very short term goal oriented work ethic that is usefull in high stress situations.

What would be an "expected" weight in leg press, for someone who is 130lbs, 5'9"? And what would be your maximum guess?

Just want to see if my high school (sophomore year) story would be considered realistic or not. :P
