Hello everyone,

I read a lot here and I look at a lot here.....:) And you all know there is a LOT here.:)

So here is what's up?

I have a few custom knives and I really enjoy them and I would like to add to my collection. But I'm not a rich person, I'm on a fixed income.
So I'm looking at new makers that I could get a great knife from, but their price maybe something I could handle?

I really don't mind what type of knives - as long as the quality is good and the price is fair?

Who would you say take a look at?

I always enjoy my time here, you guys are the best.

Thanks!

I can never say enough good things about Ryan Weeks, and his prices are still attainable by most

Both Tobin smith and Marty young are very high quality makers that have good prices. Easy to deal with nice guys too:thumbup: I have two folders made by each of them.

Tobin Smith makes a great knife for the money. He is also very easy to work with. Take a look at the photos of the latest knife he made for me.

Fixed or folded?

For folders, I second Marty Young, he's a sleeper. Good old fashioned solid workmanship at great prices!

Don't matter - as long as the quality and price are right?

Here is one I've been eying - but I think he's going to be out of my price range really fast?:grumpy:
Keep them coming guys - I need a new knife.....:D:thumbup:

I've been looking at fixed blades lately in the for sale forums for my first custom. There are a lot of VERY nice knives in the <200$ range.
Having read a few WIPs, I consider that a very fair price for the work that goes into them. In fact I think some makers barely break even, when you count the hours that went into making those knives.

Looks like you are more into natural handles material, but I'm very excited for the knife I ordered from TRC Knives. Can't hurt to check him out, his work looks good from what I've seen.

I will second Ryan Weeks - he makes excellent and "stylish" fixed blades at a very reasonable price point

You are right Al, That is a Very nice knife, and prices will probably rise.
Check out Coops photo threads, a few sleepers tucked in there.
I've got a few favorites, but won't mention cause I know I'd forget somebody.
Have fun,
Dozier

If you have a chance to get that, do it now. I believe that is a Hanson knife, but possibly made by his son. They already fetch 400-500$ from the ones I've seen....they'll only increase

Have you checked out Jared Oeser's knives?

I think Don & Kyle did that one together? I was hopening to see one Kyle did by him self maybe? ( And I think I read were Don said Kyle's knives would have a "K" stamp by the fish?)

Oeser's are very nice and all I here are good things. In my collection it is mostly folders and I may buy one? Some of the knives I have I use and some I don't. Reason I ask here is I knew some of you have handled these knives out there and would give them a plug here, if they were worthy of it?
Probably thirty days and I'll pull the trigger. Just doing my home work first....:)

A couple makers have emailed me their web site links, which is OK.... I may even pick up another knife in 6 -8 months?:D

Thanks for the help everyone. -

Here's a curve ball for you: check out Zombie Tools. These guys are nutty but their products are incredible. The more I researched them the more I realized I needed to own a representation of their work, and to say their products provide a lot of "bang for the buck" (chop for the buck?) is an understatement. I have bought swords that cost twice as much that were half as nice, and their stuff is only going to get more expensive as their wait list grows longer and longer.

More related to Bladeforums, I've been highly impressed with Joe Calton's work. I don't own any of his stuff yet, but I will, for sure. His stuff is underpriced, in my opinion, but I'm sure that will change.

Joe Calton's work
Getting close...... Price is in the ball park and nice to support a Bladeforums member.
I would like to be able to sharpen the edge clear to the tang... and not run into the tang.:)
I really like the blade profile - same type guard and spacers - with Iron Wood handle with a lanyard hole, that would give it like a double pin handle.... maybe even like the Hanson knife above?
He does a floor drop test - :D:thumbup: I appreciate a new maker finding out all he can?:D

Al, Kyle's knives have a K on the backside and I show a picture of it when I offer one up for sell. But after seeing this thread with no second picture of the back of the knife, it's confusing to those who don't know the story. I think we'll start putting the K on the same side as the fish. We are calling these collaborations, but Kyle is now doing 95% of the work and has done 12 or 13. He is just about ready for his own tang stamp, so stay tuned. :)

I'm the happy new owner of this one, my second from Kyle. Combine Don's know how, standards, and materials with the new kid on the block's pricing (Sorry Don!! ;)) and you've got one of the best deals on the market as far as I'm concerned.

This one's beautiful, great in hand, and ready for work. Would be a great EDC if I lived in a place that allowed it :grumpy:

Git while the gittins good. Or don't and I'll keep buying them ;)

damn straight! I'm anglin' to have a Hanson danglin' from my belt one day!
In fact, I'd prefer the father/son collaborative which is a fine legacy of the Hanson clan :)

You guys don't make it easy....Now I'm thinking of going this way......:D

Thanks for the info Don, much appreciated. -
