Are you more into folders or fixed blades?

Folders. I don't really have need anymore for a fixed blade. I like the fact that they can make a folder look different moreso than a fixed blade as well along with different lock mechanisms.

fixed blades, definitely. no folders. yeah, folders.

no wait, fixed. folder fixed.....

heck, i love em all!!!!! :)

I prefer fixed blade but always carry a folder as well. A folder is just a substitute for when I don't feel I can carry a fixed blade.

I carry a Case Copperlock in green appaloosa bone at work in a factory. I haven't tried a fixed blade but I have the feeling I would be invited to keep it in my car or home You know how those anal retentive oriented companies are..we are not allowed cel phones cause we might take a picture of a proprietary process. Other than the Case I have a Kershaw Bump Knife (Blue #227) but I don't edc that one. I love Fixed blades. The blade isn't limited by the handle size and shape and you have alot more function and strength. I have edc'd a Randall model 3-5" and Model 5-4" as well as carried around a Model 2-7" just cause I liked the knife so well. SO I can have most any sheath knife I want to carry out in public. I am looking at getting a skeletonized knife made here in a year or two..you know how the custom knife wait is and there will be more custom fixed blades to follow. I guess I like fixed blades, non forged..Integrals are my very favorite type of knife..I need to get some someday. Thanks for asking and for a good thread.

In my younger years I preferred a fixed blade, however now that I am older, I prefer a folder. If I can't do it with a folder, I'll use an axe.

I strongly prefer fixed blades but, as others have already noted, there are (IMO, stupid) legality issues. Would love to see the reaction on peoples' faces if I were to carry my #12 9" (#14 grind for you afficianados) Randall down the street of Denver or any other major city. Yet, in the mountains, it's perfectly acceptable, and that is what I carry. In the city, my Spyderco Delica fills the bill nicely, and is within the (again, stupid) 3-1/2" blade length limitation. That same Delica, however, would probably be deemed illegal in New York City.

Ah, the joys of knife ownership. The only thing worse, from a legal standpoint, is gun ownership.

But until we live in a country (geez, don't even get me started on the world) where everywhere has common laws on these issues, I will own and carry multiple things depending on the circumstances.

As far as expense - yeah, join the club. There are an AWFUL lot of really nice knives out there for under $100, and I have plenty of them. The Randall I just referred to would likely bring $1200 if I chose to sell it. Are more expensive knives better? Well, sometimes yes, sometimes no. But if you can easily afford to spend that kind of money, if you do your homework and get something of good quality that will maintain or increase its value, and if it makes your dick hard, I say go for it.

Gentlebeings, let's try to keep the language within reasonable bounds....

I love fixed blades! I collect them and I make them. That said, a well made folder is a thing of great beauty. I appreciate the engineering, the skills that I have not yet mastered and the fact that someone is using tools with exquisite results to make these folders "walk and talk." Knives are like any other serious addiction....you are drawn deeper and deeper into the abyss.

A friend of my has always carried a Sharp Finger. He uses it for everything, carries on his belt and never has he been challenged, That I know of.

I have on NIB and never have used it. I don't belts nor holsters.

Anyone carry one of those now a days? :D

I like folders. To me there's just something cool about collecting different kinds of knives. I like buying different brands of knives because each one has a slightly different take on folding mechanisms. For me they're more practical to carry. My first fixed is probably going to be a Ka-Bar TDI to carry when I'm back in NH since that's legal there... friggin WI, no concealed weapons.

Folders unless im going fishing, hunting or into the woods then i choose my fixed blade by size. I'll usually grab a small folder just in case i need to cut something and i dont feel like pulling out a fixed blade.

I always have a folder in my pocket and when I can, I have a fixed blade on my belt. That said I wish I could carry a FB all the time. I like 'em both though. Each has their purpose.

I prefer a folder for city carry, and a fixed for country carry. Cougar, my friend Mercedes is way too into those cat pictures, and i think she would die if she seen that one.

I don't even own a fixed blade, but I am always looking at them for a future purchase. I'd really like to get a couple of Doziers some day.

Folders all the way.

I've bought many fixed blades over the years and I have finally learned that I just don't have much use for them in the real world.
Even when I camp and hike I still don't carry a fixed-blade.
I haven't carried a fixed-blade everyday since the Gulf War....

I started carrying a Greco EDC, fixed, with a 3 7\8" blade and I love it. I run a maintenance shop all day and use the heck out of it,I just wear my shirt untucked and it's unseen. But I'll +3 on Bufords comment and carry a waved endura to social events and what not.....

I need BOTH!

Knives are a drug and a way of life, and in mine, there's always room for more.

I know what you mean about that escalating price limit though....caught myself trying to rationalize a 1200 dollar knife yesterday! It's the beginning of the end....
